Putin’s “Endgame” is to counter Obama’s attempts to take down it’s allies, starting with Syria, and secure Russia’s place in the world...
The Russians are determined that what happened in Libya and Serbia doesn’t get repeated.
Obama’s arrogance and incompetence have opened the door for Putin to make big moves, filling the void left behind by the lack of US Leadership. And China is doing the same now.
There wouldn’t be a vote today in Donetsk, had Obama not chosen the most radical anti-Russian elements in Ukraine to finance an overthrow through.
Crimea would still be Ukrainian, as well.
The FIRST move of the Not-A-Nazi Nazi’s, after the Not-A-Coup Coup that took down the elected prez, supported by most of the East, was to announce that they were going to outlaw Russian Culture and language in Ukraine.
What did they think was going to happen, after that?

In a nutshell.
The obedient media is not reporting that the EU was barreling down on Ukraine and the Crimea - along with NATO - to force them into the EU, pushing Agenda 21. (As current EU countries and putting on the brakes and looking of an out of the dismal failure.)the EU/NATO/AGENDA 21 cabal are aiming at ALL the countries that border Russia, countries that used to be pat of Russia and that are mostly Russians -
these people are predominantly RUSSIAN -
In addition, even in DC, they are holding hearings looking into Washington's instigation (also mum from media) with mercenaries in Ukraine/the Crimea that started the whole conflict in the first place)
A certain increasingly unpopular 'world leader' is also incensed over Putin's wildly growing popularity and respect - even here in America, for his policies re the church, protecting children against 'gay instruction in schools/adoption, stopping the slaughter of Christians, protecting the sanctity of marriage as between a man and a woman, loving his country - etc. ... WE won't hear it in our media - but he has 30+ other countries WITH HIM.
O's recent trip to Europe was a huge flop - he couldn't get anyone to go along with him - he came home with his tail tucked. That was sure played down in the media.
It's sobering how many, even on FB, still swallow most of what the press throws up. So little independent research.
If I were Russia, my biggest worry would be China. They have to know that the US is disarming and will soon be a paper tiger - take out one of our carriers and the rest will scurry back to port, and they’ll own the neighborhood (the Chinese have missiles and lasers that do that easily now - and I suspect the Russians might too).
So the Russians don’t need to waste their time worrying about us anymore - we’re too busy with Green Power and March Madness to be taken seriously. But China keeps getting stronger, they keep getting more and more technology from the West, and the scariest part - they keep (relatively) quiet, lulling their prey to sleep. That is hard to counter - Putin is in a position to do so, whereas our elections are won by the biggest rock star.
The people in the Russian Far East (i.e., like 2/3’s of Russia) are now about 2/3’s Chinese. That has to scare the hell out of Putin, as it’s only a matter of time before he has to face off against them there, and that will not be pretty.
So, in the end, I suspect that Putin realizes that the ONLY way to be able to take on China in the long run is to team up with other countries. Maybe us, if we can get our act together - but if not, then other countries, all over the world, which is why he’s projecting power now.

They were aligned in the Stalin/Mao and post Stalin era.
They have their own interests now, and their own sphere of influence which they are in the process of dominating.
Whether we can counter with Japan, Korea, and possibly India and Australia remains to be seen.
But the Russian view of China not so much as an ally, but as a strategic threat is a view that is worthy of more discussion.

In my opinion, China becoming dependent on the free flow of Russian gas and oil is a BIG part of any Russia/China equation.
Energy is China’s Achilles Heel, with no real local sources.
The opening of the Siberian pipelines directly to China in the next year or so will dramatically change the game of energy politics.

I struggle with thinking Obama and Putin are on the same team, due to Obama’s comment in 2012 to Dimitri M. that he “would have more flexibility after the election”.
If Obama was not on Putin’s side, would his actions be any different.
Obama and John Kerry are radicals from way back. All this threat and bluster to me is just for show. Putin still gets what he wants in the end.

That would be the jerks now in charge in Kiev in this case.
They showed their true colors the day they ordered the Ukrainian Army to use lethal force as it saw fit against civilian protesters doing even less than the Kiev Kiddies now in power did to overthrow the government and avoid having to face fair elections that were already scheduled.
They knew they had no chance of gaining power and winning control in the upcoming elections or they would have waited on the elections.
The EU didn't want to match the Russian deal with Ukraine, the nitwits now in charge wanted to avoid the elections, and the Right Sector types wanted a bigger role in the government. The three groups got together and took over, that's the bottom line.
The only open question is whether individual States within the EU knew this was in the works or if Brussels and the US undertook to back the coup without informing the leaders of individual member States.
