DONETSK, Ukraine -- Ninety percent of voters in a key industrial region in eastern Ukraine came out in favor of sovereignty Sunday, pro-Russian insurgents said in announcing preliminary results of a twin referendum that is certain to deepen the turmoil in the country.

Roman Lyagin, election chief of the self-styled Donetsk People's Republic, said around 75 percent of the Donetsk region's 3 million or so eligible voters cast ballots, and the vast majority backed self-rule.

GOSH!! STOP THE PRESSES!!! I didn’t know Firedoglake and The International Business Times were controlled by the Kremlin!!

I didn't call them Kremlin controlled (never heard of firedoglake). I said aside from the Kremlin controlled sources you linked to, if there were any in there that actually support this idea of a "pronouncement" by the Interim government against the Russian language.

I don’t want you to ‘believe’ anything. I want you to do what the rest of the frauds that haunt these threads won’t and even call DHS and report us filthy commies or let everyone see for themselves how empty your bluster is. Hell, not one of you has the guts to even complain to a mod about it.

Every last one of you demands evidence, gets it posted with links and denies the validity of it unless it locksteps their bias. You know who else does that? Liberals. you see it on every TV show, article and website they comment on or about.

So either grow a pair and take the chance they you will commit a felony by filing a false report to the govt, piss off the site owner by wasting his time, or have you a real live commie on your hands.

Or admit that you are blowing hot air.

Of course I don't, but, using these tactics, you aren't going to convince us that the "Separatists" aren't disappearing people and are ruling by terror in those cities. Trying to paint the Ukrainian government as "murdering civilians," when we're in the middle of a state of war, is nothing more than propaganda that hopes to make us confuse tragedy for policy, and to ignore the policy of the so-called 'People's Republic of Donetsk" with accident and tragedy.

Okay, fine: Mods, these guys want me to complain to you about them being propagandists for Putin (see bold). They're arguing that the vote results of 90 percent are legitimate in a region where Russians don't even have that large a presence, and then when we disagree they get silly about it and ask us to complain to you or the DPS to have them deported.

Check yourself, pal.

I did not accuse anyone here of anything.

First rule of psyops is to spread your propaganda out—that is what is SOP.

Especially in the last 100 years or so, with media.

Same words, same phrase? I just asked for information.

Lay off the blanket accusations.

I’ve been posting on FR for over a decade, actively opposing Obama and his policies, politically involved, and I’m a veteran.

I am 100% SURE I’m already on an Obama-inspired watch list.

Article is bull—’’’said around 75 percent of the Donetsk region’s 3 million or so eligible voters cast ballots, and the vast majority backed self-rule.’’

People outside the towns didn’t go along with the farce..

Donbass refused to participate in the ridiculous psevdoreferendume terrorists: the siloviki and more control checkpoints. VIDEO Illegal referendum showed that extremists have NO SUPPORT among the population. In nine districts Luhansk region referendum did NOT PASS.

This was from the scene said the journalist Artem Shevchenko on his page on Facebook, reports Tsenzor.NET.

Today, May 11 terrorists tried to hold a so -called “referendum”, rather psevdoreferendum declaration of independence of the DNI and LC . About ILLEGALITY and ridiculousness of THIS EVENT reflects not only TRAVESTY “voting”, which DOES NOT fit in any frame the CONCEPT of “voting,” when people vote ANYWHERE and ANYONE, WITHOUT the presentation of documents WITHOUT lists, WITHOUT duly registered ballots, but the lack of wanting to vote at all. 9In the northern regions of Lugansk NO VOTE AT ALL, HAS NOT BEEN and is not provodlitsya and wanting to come to the polls and cast their vote for something was already 8 people. And farmers are NOT interested in any destabilization”- told a journalist about the mood in the Luhansk region .

See also “Tsenzor.NET”: Farmers and miners Luhansk ignored “referendum” separatists. VIDEO Source: http://censor.net.ua/v284857 Source: http://censor.net.ua/v284857

They said 3 million voted. Impossible, for like in
Mariapol only had 8 polls for 600,000 or so people.

If only 300,000 voted at 8 places be 1 per sec

They showed a a crownd standing around with their pr
pictures so if they were moving that fast they’d have
to run by the camera like 100 yd dash, Be a blur.

If only 150,000 voted at the 8 places be 1 per 2 sec

If only 75,000 voted at the 8 places be 1 per 4 sec

If only 37,000 voted at the 8 places be 1 per 8 sec,

still be doing it on a the run, not like phony pics

with people just standing still.

THE ‘That stretches incredulity’ tcr guy on here, is
full of it, and dumber than box of rocks if he figures
the world can’t see through this scam..ED

Yeah, gotcha, "takes one to know one" and other second grade schoolyard BS, that's the extent of what you ever have to say that isn't clearly from your script.

Wars start when folks start talking the “national unity” theme.

The appeal to the Germans is a tell, it seems. They understood all about unifying Germans in the 1930s.

Putin seems on the same track.

Thanks for the perspective.

Dude. The vids are EVERYWHERE, Nobody has to paint anything, the proof is now spread world-wide, for all to see.

So far as I know, there are only two incidents, and in one some of the protestors were carrying weapons and molotov cocktails, and, in general, videos are everywhere of the Ukrainian military showing tremendous restraint.

On the other hand, people are disappearing in Donetsk as they're systematically threatened and picked up by roving gangs of armed "freedom fighters" for the People's Republic of Donetsk, and we do not get a video of them until their body washes up the river.

"The men who interrogated Aleksey Bida were known only by nicknames: one was called “Bear”, another “Cossack”, a third “Citizen”.

After enduring hours of beatings at the hands of these pro-Russian insurgents, Mr Bida decided to flee the Ukrainian city of Luhansk.

“It’s not safe to be in Luhansk for those who oppose the pro-Russian activists,” he said.

“Ordinary citizens are in danger. People who are disobedient have been taken away. Some people have been 'advised’ to give them money.”

The rebels who now hold sway in a dozen towns and cities across the neighbouring regions of Donetsk and Luhansk will on Sunday ask voters in both Russian and Ukrainian to say “yes” or “no” to the “act of self-rule”.

West, East Want Unity; Crimea Supports Secession

Pew has had an long and honest record in polling, as far as I know. They have generally been prescient on electoral polling since 2004 and on the issues of the time, so I'm inclined to believe their results, unless there is reason to believe otherwise.

It also tallies with what I've seen while deep diving into Russian and Ukrainian social networks, communities and forums; that the Maidan regime is very unpopular because of weakness, inefficacy and the coopting of the oligarchs... but it is ultimately preferable to Russian aggression and attempted annexation.

Most people just want peace and stability, and since Putin's 'little green men' are seen as the aggressors they want them to go away. I'd venture that if they were already part of Russia they would want to stay in Russia as well, for the same reasons. That's what apathy leads to, and it seems the East has got apathy by the bucketful.

The level to which the oligarchs have infiltrated the new government makes their victory only the less worse option for Ukraine, IMHO. Because without Putin it will be business as usual for the thieving Ukrainian oligarchs and their political pawns.

A translation of a highly rated comment I thought was insightful, from an Eastern Ukrainian. I got this from a popular Ukrainian forum. (Donbass is the far eastern region of Ukraine)

I'm from the Donbass.

Let's be honest. Not Russia took Crimea, and Russia went to Crimea. You shall not covet this Crimeans themselves, hell would that Russia failed. I sincerely regret that I left the Crimea. But I completely understand Crimean why they did so.

Be different, be a Russian conquest, now would be to the east and Ukrainian troops introduced not really thinking. But why it is not in a hurry. And because in the east in the same Donbass completely different situation than in the Crimea.

In the east, strong pro-Russian sentiment, but it is more reluctance to war with Russia, on the contrary to be friends. Just be friends without going to Russia, while remaining a part of Ukraine. But while remaining part of the segregated. And the reasons for this are many. Fundamental differences from western Ukraine: language, religion, revered (and nepochitaemye) heroes, look at the history and relations with neighbors. Well, all this plus the constant accusations that the east all of a subsidized. Edakii dependent All Ukraine. Well duck flag in our hands. Enough to feed us, we will stew in their own juice and survive on their own.

West calls us constantly anyone: scoops miserable, morons, idiots, etc. According to them in the east live exclusively blunt hardworking proletarians, the fate of which stick to the hosts. Great - the inheritance of western Ukraine. East in your opinion - a kind place for lepers.

Even now, when the country was on the verge of collapse when people are broke and have adopted the methods of the maidan, the authorities are trying to pacify the old ways. And you support.

Your decision now - order east lay down their arms and settle down, threatening the use of force. Rather than negotiate and find a way that will save Ukraine. Keep up the good work, and tomorrow those who now only for federalization, very likely will be replaced by more radical views. God forbid that happen.

IMHO

Pew is a hard left polling group that has it’s tendrils in ‘charitable trusts’ and other groups including the DNC that work to advance any number of leftist causes from global warming on down. During my years in the media I have seen many articles shredding their methods, outcomes and involvements.

their cred is zero.
