Results of Tuesdays primaries, particularly the victory of state House Speaker Thom Tillis in North Carolinas Republican Senate primary, are being hailed or decried as a victory for the Republican establishment over the Tea Party movement. Theres something to that. Tillis benefited from support from Karl Roves American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and endorsements by Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush.
In contrast, Sen. Rand Paul flew in on the day before the election to campaign for second-place finisher and fellow physician Greg Bannon, who was also endorsed by Tea Party Patriots and FreedomWorks. Mike Huckabee campaigned for the third-place candidate, minister Mark Harris.

You have that right! We are having a hard time beating even the likes of Lindsey Graham. We have nominated candidates that the mediacrats just take apart and they remind us of that everytime they get. Now GOP primary voters are very reluctant to vote for the people they most agree with. We must nominate only good people who have it in them not to embarass us or we will be stuck with the scum of the country club.
“but I am really worried about the Supreme Court.”
Well, well, well, Let us not forget that Republican presidents have selected major failures for the Supreme Court.
RINO Bush gave us the current Supreme Court looser Roberts. ACA is a Tax, not dissimilar to the penumbras that allow abortions on demand
When you are a frog in the pot that is not yet boiling, asking 21% of you fellow frogs to increase the heat only a little bit does NOT appeal to me.
There are two parts of winning a campaign: your beliefs/principles/issues, and your viability/organization/campaign.
Too many conservative candidates think they can simply whip out a flag and Constitution and wave it around, and everyone will vote for them. But unless you have a completely worthless opponent, you also need to have an organized campaign and the money to fund it in such a way as to get out and win votes for you.
That fact applies as much to the Dems as it does the GOP. Even if, like the Dems often do, you have a third party propping up the campaign, SOMEONE has to do the heavy lifting. Shoot-from-the-hip, wing and a prayer, shoestring candidacies almost never win general elections.
Tea Party candidates take note.
Well.. note that the candidacies of both went south especially after Mourdock deep-sixed his late in the campaign. Nothing like energizing the left right at the least opportune time.
I’m all ears for your plan on how to win with 30%. Of course Obama did it, but I’m not sure that I would want to go the lying and cheating route
“Im all ears for your plan on how to win with 30%. Of course Obama did it, but Im not sure that I would want to go the lying and cheating route”
1st - do not bitch at the not so glib Todd Aiken’s of this world. Your RINOs have given us worse
2nd - We lost at the Alamo - I think we had 30% there and you are correct we did loose.
3rd - DO not give in to RINO loosers at the Federal level. Simple do not vote for them. Instead educate yourself on Local issues and vote those.
I don’t agree. Sometimes, when a RINO (especially those who attack conservatives)has been in office too long, it is better that the Dem win. Those RINOs are just as evil in the end.
In Michael Barone's thinking, are "candidates who can win" a euphemism for RINOs?
BTW, not all Republican primary voters are registered Republicans. Some states have no formal voter registration by party and others have "open" primaries.
We technically have open primaries in Michigan but you can only get a republican or democrat primary ballot.
Its fine when democrats have choices of their own to make but when they don’t they can go nuts with GOP ballots.
if Tillis is such a bad outcome, then Huckabee gets the credit. Master of the fracture ...
Akin not withstanding for his stupidity O’Donnel and Angle had a overt war raging against them by Rove and the GOP. Every time Rove, and other establishment types, were on TV they were bad mouthing them. I couldn believe what i was seeing from them. The DNC didnt have to lift a finger the GOP were taking them down for them because they were embarrassed by them.
B I N G O ! ! !
So any old POS ruling class political drag queen will do so long as it has the Republican label? Policy does not matter so long as the party looks "respectable" to Trust Fund Muffie and the Junior League windtunnels and the girls down at Planned Barrenhood's abortion mill and the folks that just fell in love with Mapplethorpe's photo collection as well as the various gun grabber groupies.
When we nominate a John McLame, a Mittens, or anyone from their social set, we just thrill National Public Radio, the Chamber of Commerce (yawn!), and the boys with the green eye shades and sleeve garters clipping coupons in the back room at the bank down on Main Street.
Hey! If Muffie and Nancyboy and these "Republicans" are REALLY lucky, they can get another Herod Blackmun or another John Paul Stevens or another William Brennan or another Lewis Powell or another Earl Warren even! Be still my beating heart! Whatcha think?
Susan Collins and LAMAR!!!! Alexander and Bob Corker and Mark Nancyboy Kirk and their despicable ilk need reinforcements, right? Anyone have Lowell P. Weicker, Jr.'s phone number? He is about 84 years old but anyone from Connecticut can tell you what a real winner he was. Or, we can retread Lugar to run for his old seat. He will only be about 90 years old.
When some unprincipled RINO POS is defeated in a primary OR in a general election, we are only one election from replacing that POS with an actual American, a policy movement conservative, i.e someone WORTH electing!
If you want conservatives to vote for GOP candidates, make sure that those candidates are rick solid on: guns, babies, marriage, government reduction, tax cuts, military, aggressive foreign policy (when our finances have recovered from Obozo), rebuilding the military, etc. If not, ohhhhh welllll! No soup for you! Bold colors
Nominate Romney again and see how much worse he does next time.
BTW, you, like so many other “lesser of two evilers” can never answer the eternal question: What has your strategy done to stop, let alone reverse the trend by BOTH parties towards the monolithic bureaucracy we now have?
This would not be the case if all of our candidates were like Cruz, Lee and Paul. But, we always end up with a dumb-a** who has the IQ of a can of Spam like Todd Akin or Richard Mourdock. Or some Chiropractor in Kansas who puts X-ray pics and zaney remarks about them online. Or a candidate who is embroiled in a law suit. Or a candidate who attends a rally hosted by supporters of Cock-fighting in KY and who says that illegal Mexicans are harder workers than Americans. It’s not the Tea Party; it’s these idiots we get behind before we adequately vet them and find out that they are freakin’ idiots
... albeit often with a lot of phony votes. Does anyone really believe that people on-the-ground didn't reject Harry Reid, Al Franken, Nancy Pelosi, Obama, only to have those leftists' rule imposed via the slim margin needed for victory ginned as needed? Government is solely a force, nothing more and nothing less, and a minority has seized control of that force.
The stupid "who can win" qualifier means the candidate who pleases the imaginary "America" conjured up by the MSM. Real Americans would prefer to vote for LESS government by a majority. The problem is that neither major party gives them that option.
The bottom line is that, if your candidates won't toe the line on social issues, then you don't get our votes. I don't care who your candidate is running against in a general election. If your candidate (the social issue mushball) loses, the world will still turn even if the brand name Demonrat should win.
Thinking strategically??? How about this: See to it that the social conservative agenda is protected and advanced or you lose! I would include as social conservative agenda items: babies, marriage, guns, military rearmament, sharply slashing public spending on all leftist agenda items (envirowhackoism, gummint skeweling, hands off homeschoolers and private schoolers, slash taxes and thereby the gummint's allowance, etc.) Failure to meet those terms and down you go. Mike Castle would have been just as much a disgrace as Christopher Coons. Castle's sole advantage? One foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
Rule or ruin: now and forever. BTW, as to conservatism, I was a Reagan state chair and I bet you were not.
Sometimes they are. Who would you rather have as a co-worker on a stressful job, a parade of unskilled teens with attitudes who may or may not show up tomorrow, or one trustworthy, hardworking young man who values his job and the people he works with, and who is damned well SURE to show up for work every day with zero attitude? I've been there and done that.
Minimum wage, which Romney et all advocate RAISING once again, is a major contributor to illegal immigration. The GOP just keeps blowing it because in its opinion, a GOP candidate in favor of raising the minimum wage "could win."
Such a win would be without my vote; net loss in any case, because raising the minimum wage is losing the battle against tyrannical government.
