The more we see Gays/homosexuals, the more Americans may well say, “you know, I don’t think that is really what I want for America” whereas I think a lot of the so-called gay rights movement moves forward without people knowing too much about gays.

There are indications it works exactly the opposite - the more homosexuals a person knows, the more likely they are to support the agenda. That's why "coming out" is such a high priority for them.

How many otherwise conservative figures have come out for gay marriage once they know they have a gay child?

What you say may well come true. They discussed this on the radio earlier. The more you see this kind of stuff, the more acceptable it is to many people I suppose. The less shock value. Perhaps.
