The hottest competition in Washington this week is among House Republicans vying for a seat on the Benghazi kangaroo court, also known as the Select House Committee to Inflate a Tragedy Into a Scandal. Half the House has asked to serve on the committee, which is understandable since its the perfect opportunity to avoid any real work while waving frantically to right-wing voters stomping their feet in the grandstand.
They wont pass a serious jobs bill, or raise the minimum wage, or reform immigration, but House Republicans think they can earn their pay for the rest of the year by exposing nonexistent malfeasance on the part of the Obama administration. On Thursday, they voted to create a committee to spend such sums as may be necessary to conduct an investigation of the 2012 attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The day before, they voted to hold in contempt Lois Lerner, the former Internal Revenue Service official whom they would love to blame for the administrations crackdown on conservative groups, if only they could prove there was a crackdown, which they cant, because there wasnt.
Both actions stem from the same impulse: a need to rouse the most fervent anti-Obama wing of the party and keep it angry enough to deliver its donations and votes to Republicans in the November elections. For a while it seemed as if the Affordable Care Act would perform that role, but Republicans ran into a problem when the country began to realize that it was not destroying American civilization but in fact helping millions of people....

What a disgusting pile of crap from a once-great newspaper
If there was any doubt before about NYT being a mouthpiece for the Demonrats, then this should erase them.
Oh, and the “jobs bill” LOL,what a farce
What’s 4 dead Americans, when Durante got award for not reporting on 10 million dead Ukrainians. Time for another Pulitzer? /s
Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Ty Woods and Glen Dougherty could not be reached for comment.

The Slimes expects Republicans to act like Democrats...this isn’t Cuba yet!
I haven't read a New York Slimes editorial in decades, so the shrill, abrasive tone of this one kind of surprised me to some extent. Obviously, I knew they would be partisan pro-'Rat, but this is the kind of no holds barred rhetoric that you would not even expect to hear from Jay Carney. They are going to way more of a rhetorical extreme in excoriating the House Select Committee - even before it's established - than they ever would do in years past with any House or Senate committee, even HUAC or Sen. Joseph McCarthy's committee, for example. It's the tone that's so completely changed, from scholarly to off-the-wall, from an era when they were considered by most the number one daily newspaper in the country to today, when they are not much better than cover wrapping for the bottom of your bird cage.
Jeepers ... Thanks for the ping!
They are really afraid of the truth coming out on this one.
I see the times did not answer any of the questions that were asked of the press by trey gowdy.
We are in interesting times, indeed. Things need to move quickly though, dragging it out will lead to public disinterest on both sides.
What do you call the Nina Burleigh Press if it is made up of men?
The New York Times contingent.
They are indeed getting nasty.
Like a cornered rat, I suppose!
TREASON - continuous, IN-YOUR-FACE, agenda-driven, agency-abetted, representative-enabled, MEDIA-COMPLICIT, ongoing...
The people at the New York Times see the world from a position of attitude, swagger, and false superiority.
Their paper is dying, the public doesn't trust or respect them, and their jobs are on the chopping block...
This kind of op-ed is the end-result.
New York Times 'integrity’ : the ONLY thing that matters is who's ox is being gored. They have no priniples beyond that... I wonder, could this have anything to do with their endless staff cutbacks?
Yes. It certainly is loud and shrill.
I had a couple of teachers at the prep school I went to who taught me to analyze newspapers and magazines for hidden bias, and I also wrote for our school newspaper. So I was able to detect the bias in the NY Times and other sources even back in the 1950s.
It has gotten steadily worse over the years. Now, it seems that they don’t even bother to try to hide their bias.
Still, that is an amazingly shrill editorial for what was once a dignified newspaper. Even at first glance, the most oblivious reader can tell that someone has gotten their goat. Not that that matters any more to the few readers the Times has left.
Come to think of it, FWIW, there was a pretty heavy TV ad campaign for subscriptions to the NY Times in the NYC market. But it seems like it has disappeared over the last few months.
They know they are a dying breed.
