I would suspect a drug cartel. The wife may have been taken after witnessing the death/dismemberment of her husband because the cartel believes she knows where whatever they're looking for is located. She will eventually be disposed of also. Dead soul cartels, yup that's what I would suspect.

BTW, while Reynolds is a gated community, there is no guard to stop someone from just driving into the area, most of the time. If a croquet match or riding event or golfing event is going, then the entry is guarded/controlled.

the drug angle could be viable...but I suspect the elders were simply collateral damage from some grandson’s drug dealing....like, we’re going to kill these people and we’ll bring you the proof, etc...
