It’s called GAS taxes on every gallon...
this is just a thinly disguised excuse - another one - to track our every move - to track how much we each drive. (And down the road, they’ll decide how MUCH we can drive, individually - like x-amount of miles allowed for work, groceries, etc - and then we’ll get our individual ration books - based on the ‘carbon footprint’ they deem we should be held to.
NOT being factitious.
The problem is that between mandated improvements in mileage, and incentives to buy extremely fuel-efficient cars (I just got an electric car - no gas tax!), the next obvious step is to tax per mile regardless of what you’re driving. They’ll just note the odometer during every annual inspection and bill you accordingly.
That they glean even more info about you is just a bonus.
