Well they're saying pretty much the same things.

No worries, this idea has zero traction in Canada. I doubt that it would even make it to 10% approval. If so, it’s no more than twice as popular as Obama.

Unreal. Isn’t it. With the debt we’re running up, Canada would be wise to say, “No thanks.”

I do like the idea of merging with the country that once burned Washington D.C. down...

Deconstruction of the United States of America. International Socialists and U.S.A.-United Socialists of America. Enemies foreign, enemies domestic.

Agreed. Canadian identity is founded on not being American. English Canada was essentially founded by American Loyalists who fled the aftermath of the American War for Independence. Their old national anthem, The Maple Leaf Forever, celebrates the British victory against the Americans in the War of 1812. The most conservative Canadians, the ones to whom conservative Americans would be sympathetic, have a strong attachment to their British roots and the monarchy we can never share.

North is north, and south is south, and never the twain shall meet.

If Canada wants to merge with the US, it should apply for statehood. Canada would be our second largest state in population, after California, if it were to be admitted to the union.

I REMEMBER MY HERO PAT BUCHANNAN ADVOCATED making England our 51’st state. More cream in the coffee. I could see the same with Canada. They are TEACHABLE: single payer healthcare notwithstanding. Canada may have something better than energy that we can use; water.

They probably wouldn’t do it that way. I imagine each province would be a separate state. In a discussion about the Philippines achieving statehood, each province there was also looked at as a state.

I'm thinking in terms of a merger of New England and New York (7 states in total) into a gigantic superstate, to be replaced by 6 new Canadian states. The Canadian right is a lot like moderate Democrats, so this would be the only solution that did not tilt the Senate too far towards the Dems. In the House, the GOP would lose a lot of seats.

I really don’t like the author of this article. Such megalomania. Its hard enough living in the USA. Furthemore, you know these meglomaniacs are only interested in a union of the USA and canada as a first step toward a greater north american union. that’s what the amnesty stuff is about. Even the north american union stuff is a stepping stone on the way to a new world union. that union would be a further step to one world government.

Think of the taxes an unaccountable one world government could levy.

People will want to leave the planet earth asap.

Well, Quebec wouldn’t be wild about it, they’re not wild about being part of Canada. I could see the four conservative western provinces joining us as states - BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba but the Demos would never allow eight new Republican senators.

It would be bad for both sides. Americans would lose the Bill of Rights and Canadians would have to stop ending every sentence with "eh?"

I've seen predictions of this type since I was a kid...it will never happen.
