WASHINGTON The Republican Party will watch nervously on Tuesday when the first of a series of key primaries to select Senate nominees is held in North Carolina, one of the states where the races are likely to determine which party controls Congress.
North Carolina has made a decisive shift to the right in recent years, with Republicans in control of both the governors office and both houses of the legislature for the first time in more than a century. Barack Obama won the state narrowly in 2008, and Mitt Romney carried it in 2012.
As a result of the shift, Republicans see a chance to unseat Senator Kay Hagan, a Democrat who rode Mr. Obamas coattails in 2008, and in the process pick up one of the six additional seats that the Republicans need to take control of the Senate.
Party officials say the best hope of defeating Ms. Hagan is Thom Tillis, the speaker of the State House of Representatives. He has the support of Speaker John A. Boehner; the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell; the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and outside groups like American Crossroads. On Monday he was endorsed by Mr. Romney.
Recent polls suggest that Mr. Tillis has a comfortable lead over his three opponents, but it is not clear whether he can win the 40 percent he needs to prevent a runoff in July. (Most of the recent polls did not meet the standards of The New York Times because they used automated telephone calls, which by law cannot be made to cellphones.)

Let's give them a nice shiv in the side but forcing a runoff today!
Greg Brannon for Senate!!
Voted for him already. I think he and Harris will force Tillis into a run-off.
Good to hear!!
Yes. Just like party-favored moderate squish Senators Mack IV (FL), Rehberg (MT), Berg (ND), Smith (PA), Allen (VA), Raese (WV) and Thompson (WI) were our best hopes ....
Oh ...... wait ..........
I’ve heard good things from the ground there. Lots of hype and lots of signs. Everyone in NC needs to GOTV today for the true conservative in the race, Dr. Brannon. We can force a runoff and win here. Get it done! SMASH ROVE!
Tillis is Allen writ large. He thinks OCare was a good idea!

Yup, but you never hear about how the Establishment blew their wad on these losers. But the names Angle, O’Donnell and Akin are constantly mentioned.
I voted on the way to work this morning. The polls had opened @ 0630 and I was #5 to finish. I saw on the Republicrat ballot that Tillis was listed AT THE TOP and Greg Bannon was shown as next to last of the 8 total candidates.
I would love to see how much $ were given to the NC/Wake County Republican party to have Tillis’s name listed 1st. He’ll certainly get the votes of the “impulse voters”. Let us hope that most peeps will look for Brannon’s name and give him the votes and give US the Conservative we need!
Just wondering..did Burr make an endorsement?
They listed the candidates alphabetically (according to common core)...
People still have land lines?
Let's hope all these polls are FUBAR, and that the TEA Party sweeps the board.
Dunno for sure, if he did, I didn’t hear of it. :)
THAT would explain it! :)
I’m just wondering where Who is (in NC) and the choices on votes that were made.
I’m in Iredell County and going to Vote when GF gets out of work.
Definitely NOT Voting demonrat but We got 5 “Rep/Conservitaves” running for Sheriff + about the same for the demonrats.
Definitly Voting for Brannon. (BTW listed 7th out of 8 on the Ballot with that POS tillis as listed 1st)
