I just want to say, my impression is that Trey Gowdy is a pit bull; and in the best sense of the word.

From what I’ve seen he has been very impressive. He seems to be a real conservative.
I don’t trust Boehner and the established order. They may view Gowdy as a threat. This could be a setup to slap down a rising conservative star. If the Democrats choose to boycott the committee, and Boehner and Cantor pay lip service to “finding the truth” in public, but in private work with the White House, Pelosi, and the media to undermine Gowdy, heading this committee could be a career ending move. Gowdy will be portrayed by the Dems and the press as running a partisan witch hunt and the White House will do everything it can to obstruct the investigation. If Gowdy can’t find a really big smoking gun the committee will be labeled a failure and Gowdy’s prospects for a future leadership role will be dead.
I would like to be optimistic but I’ve seen too much treachery in the GOP since 2010 to believe Gowdy will really have the backing of the Speaker and the leadership.
