FWIW, five years ago I started taking 5000 iu of vitamin D3 per day. Haven’t been sick since. I realize this is 100% anecdotal, but that’s my experience. YMMV.

I take 10,000 i.u. per day.
No flu shots, no shingles shots, no irradiation.
Healthy as a horse and my early breast cancer has mis appeared also.

I've been taking high doses of D3 for years now....I was sick this year for the first time in 7 years. I called it 'walking pneumonia'. My doctor said it was a bronchial infection. After three visits to the doctor, Avelox finally cured it.
