THE MAN who shot President Ronald Reagan is allowed to spend 17 days on release from a psychiatric hospital each month under a new court ruling, writes Mike Parker in Los Angeles.

The freedom given to failed assassin John Hinckley Jr, which includes permission to drive to his mother’s house, has sparked a storm in the US and shocked former First Lady Nancy, 92.

Hinckley, now 58, fired a hail of bullets at the late president in March 1981, in Washington, seriously wounding him. Three others were badly hurt including press secretary James Brady, now 73.

This guy shot a President, a top aide, a Secret Service agent and a cop.

He was taken without a scratch and received a fair trial.

That always made me proud to be an American.

Of course, that America is long gone. Think of the unarmed crazy lady who got greased last fall when her car got too close to our rulers’ barricades.

Of course Ford was shot at, TWICE.

Well technically he was only shot at once, by Sara Jane Moore. Squeaky Fromme never got a round off.

I never thought of it this way but perhaps we should have gun control for Democrats. They seem to be the only ones asking for it so why don’t they just impose it upon themselves and leave the rest of us alone.

Reagan was the only President to survive that long after being shot, yes, that is true. However President James A. Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau on July 2 1881, four months after his election as the 20th U.S. President. Garfield died 11 weeks later on Sept. 19, 1881.

The shooting was witnessed by Robert Todd Lincoln, one of President Lincoln’s sons, who had already gone through this experience years before, of seeing history being violently made. One bullet remained lodged in Garfield’s body. The doctors probed with unsterilized fingers and instruments, but could not locate it. Alexander Graham Bell devised a metal detector specifically for the purpose of finding that bullet lodged inside Garfield, but the metal hospital bed he was lain on made accurate detection impossible.

Gee, I’m starting to see a common thread to all of the violence.

Hinckley shouldn’t want to be on the street, could be very bad for his health.

He never should have been sentenced to serve as long as he has, attempted murder isn’t a life sentence.

In a world where the elites aren’t treated any different then the people this man would already be free.
