The two Republican lieutenant governor candidates, David Dewhurst and Dan Patrick, faced off Friday night in a runoff debate.
The debate took place at the studios of Houston Public Media.
The runoff is May 27. The latest polls show Dewhurst, the current lieutenant governor, far behind Patrick, a state senator.
Heres a look at the race from KUHF, Houstons public radio station:
It's unusual for the incumbent to be unseated, but Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is as many as 20 points behind state Sen. Dan Patrick in the polls.

I agree with that. I didn’t see too much coming out of his running of Education in the Senate. But was it due to the Blocker Rule - where nothing gets done without some Democrat support, or was it what he really wanted.
In any case, he will almost certainly be Lt. Governor, and assuming that he is able to get rid of the Blocker Bill, we’ll see which way he goes. He might actually do well, like Cruz.
Yep...let’s see what he will do...
I live in Texas and will tell you the despicable filth Dewhurst threw at Ted Cruz was way way over the top. I wouldn’t vote for Dewhirst for dog catcher. He is running the same way against Patrick.
Patrick is definitely no Ted Cruz but IMO he’s not Dewhurst.
“... I dont plan on voting in the runoff. Its not worth my gas or time.”

Well good...that’s one less vote for Dewhurst.
I just want to bslap that smarmy latina in Dewhurst’s ads.

After the way Patrick treated Cruz during the election, he is most certainly in the Rino camp until he can dig his way out.
Yes, I too was VERY disappointed with Mt. Patrick in his Ted Cruz (master) interview.
At the time of the interview Mr. Patrick was scheming of all the different options he had in front of him for higher office. With Mr. Ted winning the Texas Senator’s seat, Dan’s options of an easy road to the top vanished.
Everyone makes mistakes. How many of us live in glass houses?
