(Reuters--LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas--An Arkansas judge ruled unconstitutional for the second time in about a week a new law requiring voters to show a photo ID, but said on Friday there was not enough time to prevent officials from applying the law at primary elections this month.
Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Tim Fox said he was staying his order because to do otherwise would create "turmoil" in thousands of precincts. Last week, he said the law was "void and unenforceable."
Nearly three dozen U.S. states have voter identification measures, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Many Republicans have maintained that the laws are aimed at preventing voter fraud, but several Democrats dismiss the claim, saying no such problem exists and the measures are actually a way of trying to prevent low-income people and minorities, who typically vote for the Democrats, from casting ballots.

So, why is this even an issue anymore. Are these judges just ignoring legal precedent?
All RIGHT! Tell that gay judge to strike DOWN the picture ID for gun purchases, too. Same principle!
I can relate an experience with my oldest son, who is mildly mentally impaired. Recently he lost his SS card, went down to SS office to get another one. He had his birth certificate with him, but no picture ID. He was told he needed something with a picture Id with his birth day and something with his SS# on it in order to get a new card. He can’t get a State ID without his SS card- he had lost, misplaced, had his State ID’s stolen over the years. He wanted to get another State ID. However, there is a limit on how many State ID’s you can get and SS cards you can get over your life time. SS card is 10 max.
Long story, but the guy at SS office said I have his printout showing all his information; his Aunt said, can you give that to us so we can take down to DMV- he said no, we use to do that but folks were never going to DMV. They would take the printout and sell it and make fake ID’s.
He finally did get his SS card after he took his bus ID card down to SS office.
For homeless folks, mentally impaired, people who move a lot(my son, who gets taken advantage of due to his SSDI money), they tend to get their ID’s, SS cards, Birth certificates stolen, lost, a lot.
I never had a clear picture of what they go through to get an ID until it happened with my son.
One has to show a photo ID to take Concord (NH) Trailways buses to/from Boston.
Maybe lots of people should file frivolous lawsuits when asking for ID for other things.
It is time to SUE, SUE, SUE on EVERYTHING that requires a photo ID and FLOOD the court system with cases...
If you don’t have to shown an ID to vote, then you shouldn’t have to prove who you are for ANYTHING else...
That’s how important it is...
GA has a Voter ID law...
State issued ID’s are FREE for voting! You just have to get to the local DMV to get it...

Actually, that doesn't matter -- even if they cost two cents, it would be a poll tax and thus unconstitutional. There would have to be at least one free-of-charge option.
Why not stick the Second Amendment in the judge's face. In most states, governments charge a fee, require photo ID licensing, and restrict places for carrying. What about all those poor people?
I agree. We are no longer a country of rules. Black robed dictators do not rule this country.
Why do I need to show my ID to buy a gun?
I don’t need one to vote.
And which activity is more dangerous?
re-read the last line of what I said. Or maybe I should put it another way: Has any court stated that a state does NOT have the right to enforce it’s OWN voter fraud laws?
Answer: No, not one. In fact, the courts have recently ruled that the states DO have that right.
Seems the lefty judges just don’t want folks checking IDs. And they know the real reasons as well as we do.
In short, the state(s) should just IGNORE the ruling, arrest a few for vote fraud on election day, and when some left-wing outfit tries to get the election results thrown out, the state can simply say they have pending vote fraud cases that back up their position.
Thanks for the post regarding your son’s situation
It gives me a better understanding of the process.
.
Somebody needs to point out to Sharpton and that bunch that with Voter ID required they could make a living selling fake I.D.s. Russell Simmons will get right on it.
What I would suggest...is a national fake ID card, that we’d all just put a self-made JPG shot of ourselves next to a dog or cat, then print out the card and use it whenever required.
Now, saying this...for driving infractions....that’s different and a driver’s license would be mandatory (we’ve all read the state rule books and understand that concept). But beyond that...when at a drug store for prescription drugs, or entering an airport, or buying booze....we should pull out the fake national ID and insist on it being acceptable.
I think the Judge really said the right thing...we don’t need a photo ID for anything beyond driving responsibility. So, let’s all play the game desired.
It’s not so much the cost of getting an ID as providing the proper ID to get an ID. Son has no drove a car, not able to for mentality reasons. He has never gone to college, nor been in Military. He has never married nor does he have children, doesn’t have to file income tax return, etc.
He is not alone in those life instances where proof of identity with a photo is hard to prove- only had his birth certificate.
Luckily he did find an old public bus pass card with his photo and information on it- that was the only way he could get a new SS card and a State ID.
How would they know? It's an untraceable crime..
I do know of one state that passed this law to require ID to be able to vote, also created a program to provide a picture ID to those who needed them free of charge.
The courts still ruled the law unconstitutional.
