I burn twigs and bark from the cedar/juniper trees on the property over a lump of charcoal made for that purpose as incense when I pray my rosary for my friend who is fighting cancer...
I am a Tibetan Buddhist and there is a TB smoke offering practice that involves making copious amounts of juniper smoke. After the summer of 2012 when we had three separate forest fires within 30 miles of here (2 within 5 miles) I decided to forgo it for a while as people are a little jumpy when they see smoke now.
It can also be done indoors using small amounts on a charcoal disk. There is a lot of juniper, two species, in the foothills around here but only a couple of scraggly specimens on my small lot. I'd love to plant more of some nicer varieties but nursery prices for trees are killer.
