From what I can see, most kids grow up determined to avoid the mistakes they saw in their parents - which is why they usually end up repeating the errors of their grandparents.
One of the most Conservative guys I know had a grandmother who was a flat-out, card carrying Communist in the 1930’s, and remained one until she passed on a few ticks shy of 100.
