Chaffetz saying that CIA and Dept. of State telling Libya at the time it’s the terrorist group.

Chaffetz on fire.

General says desperation in the room trying to get situational awareness. Says our assets did not go to the sound of the guns.

Was deference to State Dept.

Did State ever say: go help them?

General: No.

Chaffetz asks General if we could get there in time?

Gen.: We will never know—we didn’t try.

Eleanor Holmes-Norton up now. D from DC.

Holmes-Norton yields back.

Issa says vote will be coming up. Will break for vote, but now Jim Jordan(R) is up.

Jordan says military could not react because no word from State Dept. General says could not do what military does.

Jordan asks—first time in your 33 year career you could not go to the sound of the guns.

Jordan on fire in questioning.

General says State did not call for stronger action like in past. State has the lead, military is in support at Africom.
