I’ve heard much ABOUT this case, but find it bizarre. What is the lowdown? Did Knox likely commit murder, or is she being setup? Italian courts don’t seem trustworthy, lol.

Italy, lovely as it is, is stuck in the 15th Century and remains largely in the grip of medieval superstition.

Maybe it’s the Rococo style of criminal theory.

A known burglar with a history of carrying a knife surprises a young woman when he breaks into a house, rapes her and kills her.

Too easy! Too simple! Too mundane for such a tragedy! Not just Guede’s knife, not just Occam’s Razor, so English, so boring! There were two or three of them! There was acquaintance, and hatred, and perversion, and jealousy! There was sex gone wrong! Yes! That is the theory!

This is now a third new theory, supported by no evidence, by a kangaroo court in Italy. I followed it for a while back when... And I just don't see any compelling evidence at all that leads me to a guilty finding. I don't think she did it.

What is the lowdown?

I don't know where to start.

Apparently everyone outside of the USA (except for a midwife in Tonga and a Botswanan named Nǃxau) believe Knox is guilty.

In the USA, there are websites, movements, legal defense groups, forensics experts, blogs, activists, and dog breeds devoted to proving Knox's innocence. When you read them, you are convinced Knox is innocent.

There are also USA websites, movements, legal groups, forensics experts, blogs, activists, and dog breeds devoted to showing Knox is guilty. When you read them, you are convinced Knox is guilty.

Knox lied. The Italian police lied. The Italian 'justice' system doesn't appear to have anything to do with justice, and prosecutors and judges have changed the legal theories of the crime and Knox's participation in it more often that I change socks. To Americans, the Italian system appears to include multiple bites at the apple by prosecutors.

A man, who was a friend of Knox's, has admitted his guilt, but (a) doing so gave him a reduced sentence and (b) he never claimed to be the sole person involved.

The police lies are plentiful. As for one Knox lie, she repeats the story about an hours-long, intimidating interrogation in a language she didn't know, before a 'forced' confession. However, dates and times show she received a translator within 30 minutes, and signed the confession within 90 minutes. Her interrogation to confession story is a lie.

Italian DNA experts weren't the quality of US DNA experts, and US DNA experts disagree.

Don't even get into the arguments over the alleged footprint of Knox in her roomie's blood near the front door. We'll need to talk about the fruit juice theory, what luminol fluoresces besides blood, whether Knox's USA forensics expert's DNA tests that conclude 'no blood' are correct, or other DNA experts are correct in saying Knox's DNA experts used method that didn't account for dilution of DNA through luminol, and more sensitive tests that show blood.

We need to address the confessed murder's previous crime using means of entry similar to means of entry into Knox's apartment, plus another crime in which he possessed knife similar to one of the knives used to murder Knox's roommate.

Yeah, it's complicated.

This is one of the biggest travesties ever. She is totally innocent. They have the killer in jail. Italians run a joke/kangaroo court system.

They’ve already found the killer and tossed him in prison. As a matter of fact, I think he’s already served most or all of his sentence. That little fact is apparently immaterial in the Italian justice system.

The Knox case is simply tabloid fervor gripping an idiotic and dysfunctional nation.

Rudy Guede, an African immigrant with a history of burglary and brandishing knives at people during said burglaries, broke into a residence where a number of university students were living. One young woman was there at the time, and a struggle ensued in the woman’s bedroom. She was attacked, stripped, sexually assaulted, stabbed multiple times and killed. Guedde made off with murdered woman’s cell phone and some currency. During the attack and escape, Guede left behind bloody handprints and footprints in the bedroom along with a streak of blood in one of the common areas of the building.

A little note here, the Italian militia which functions as a police force and the larger state police force (carabinieri and polizia di stato) are not the F.B.I., to get an idea what you’re dealing with here think Mayberry if it were originally written as a Telemundo Soap Opera.

Miss Knox and her boyfriend were typical ditzy, clueless, drug-addled lefty college kids. Due to an extreme deficit in common sense, and likely a little chemical assistance from recreational herbs, they didn’t quite react to the murder and police questioning as you’d expect intelligent, sharp, put-together adults would. So, naturally, when the drama-queen Italian police forces show up to investigate a murder they assume it couldn’t possibly be something as mundane as a piece of crap, waste of flesh criminal immigrant robbing, raping, and murdering a woman. Why the very allegation is undoubtedly racist or something. The murdered woman’s roommate must obviously be a jealous witch that staged a burglary and sexual assault, with the help of her boyfriend and a local black man or two, in order to serve as a cover up for a complex murder conspiracy.

European tabloids descended on the case like a pack of wolves. The public ate up every lurid detail and loved the “man bites dog” nature of the made-up-story as well as the racial elements involved. Think of Tom Wolfe’s novels and the hunt for the great white defendant, except a public orgy of the media and justice system a thousand times more lurid and absurd than anything fiction could reasonably convey.
