UCLA Rejects $3M Gift From Donald Sterling For Kidney Research

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Researchers at UCLA will return a portion of a $3 million pledge that Clippers owner Donald Sterling made to support kidney research, school officials announced Tuesday.

The university is returning the initial $425,000 payment from the Donald T. Sterling Foundation made earlier this month, and will not accept the balance of the money, calling the comments he made in a recorded conversation “divisive and hurtful,” according to spokesperson Phil Hampton.

Dr. Ira Kurtz, a professor of medicine in UCLA’s Division of Nephrology was awarded the gift earlier this month to fund research on the structural properties of key proteins in the kidney that affect its function in health and disease.

KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports the project’s ultimate goal is to aid in the development of drugs to treat patients with kidney disorders.

The school issued the following statement: “Mr. Sterling’s divisive and hurtful comments demonstrate that he does not share UCLA’s core values as a public university that fosters diversity, inclusion and respect. For those reasons, UCLA has decided to return Mr. Sterling’s initial payment of $425,000 and reject the remainder of a $3 million pledge he recently made to support basic kidney research by the UCLA Division of Nephrology.”

UCLA officials also addressed inquiries about an advertisement that appeared in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times “falsely suggesting that it was UCLA publicly thanking him for the gift.”

The ad was placed by Sterling, not the university, according to Hampton.

Naaah. They don’t want to EXECUTE him. They want him to make a public confession of his guilt like in Red China, swear to live a politically correct life in the future and sin before the God of Political Correctness no more.

He’s one of the first truly visible media pariahs in the coming race wars, and it’s hilarious because this guy was a Democrat in the vein of Robert “KKK” Byrd.

My 83 year old grandfather, an Obama supporter, told me, “This is what we were taught as children. This was socially acceptable when I was in my 30s.” I was never raised a racist or taught to believe that blacks were inferior to me, but having been bused to a majority black high school in the county’s efforts to “balance” racial quotas, I learned through EXPERIENCE to fear them.

That’s what this is about, it’s about intimidation. Blacks in this country have been emboldened by Obama and a black AG who won’t prosecute blacks for what they deem not to be hate crimes. As such, they’re taking all the liberties they can, because society, specifically the media, is going to kowtow to them out of fear of being called racist.

I’m not afraid to be called racist anymore, because I know I’m not. When a majority of prisons are filled with a specific race, that’s called playing the odds. When a majority of out-of-wedlock births are linked to a specific race, that’s called an unassailable statistics. When a majority of violent crimes and property crimes are committed by a specific race, there’s a reason whites avoid certain areas of a city and choose to settle down in the suburbs. We’re not racists, we’re paying attention. We’re trying to survive just like any other human being, regardless of gender, race, creed, religion, or otherwise.

So UCLA wants more sick people to die. Gee, some non- governmental private person is ( illegally and secretively) caught on tape saying some bad or unpopular words — and now the university refuses the money to help cure or find cures for some deathly- sick innocent people -— why not ask them, you miserable A-hole bureaucratic leaches at the public trough?! Did all the sick patients ask you to turn down the money that might enable them to live ? Just wondering.

This is, without a doubt, one of the worst absurd displays of self righteous political correctness I have ever seen. We need to sacrifice Sterling to a diety of political correctness, to prove how liberal we are. Silver needs to show how liberal the NBA is. Sponsors abandoning the team are trying to show how liberal they are. Everybody in this sickening spectacle is trying to show how politically correct they are, lest they themselves be accused of the worst crime known to man—racism against blacks.

I bet they would gladly use aborted babies in their research though.

To me it means they really don’t need research money. If you have money to give to research, give it to someone else.

How “hurtful” is it going to be if that money would have made a difference in kidney research? How hurtful to those that would have benefited?

Blacks have more hypertension and therefore, more kidney disease.

It occurs to me Hillary Clinton has probably uttered more racial slurs than Donald Sterling.

Wow. They'd take money from Communists, Socialists, the NWO, COnservatives, Grandma's cat's estate, but pi$$ on donations for kidney research because some old fart made one "raysis" remark?

Now, they git religion.

FOr 3 million he can invite (or kick out) anyone who might otherwise grace the cushions in his owner's box.

That's his space, anyway.

Maybe this principle can be put to work elsewhere, though. What sort of remark would it take to get, say, the IRS to give me my money back?

I guess the only thing left for the only guy in America who ever made racially insensitive statements to do is commit suicide

No, this exclusively applies to Whites (by race and culture), who are deemed guilty until proven innocent of racisim and homophobia.

This is a blood sacrifice to the PC gods. Maybe Obama can take an equivalent amount from his stash and give it to UCLA because he cares...
This will not stop with this one man and this incident. Next week it will by LGBTQs, Muslims, supporters of traditional marriage, etc. The lesson to all is to submit to the PC gods or else.

Sorry,
but I don’t believe your 83 year old grandfather
was bused to a majority black high school.

Brown v. Board of Education was in 1954.
The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964.

Its what I’ve said all along.

Its a good thing Jonas Salk wasn’t developing the polio vaccine today and found to oppose gay marriage.

Then there is the issue of consequences for exercising freedom of speech.

Trial by PC lynch mob.

There is a precedent, though.

Anyone remember Marge Schott?

Actually UCLA may be making a ‘good’ move.

IF all the people that are screaming ‘Off with his head’ would make up the difference that is being ‘rejected’ UCLA should be able to collect Billions from the NBA players and Black Activists.

Suppose you are going to tell me that my prospective ‘donors’ that could care less about ‘others’.

MAYBE UCLA could take the money and promise not to use ANY of it on Black patients......

Time to buy ‘popcorn’ shares.
