Good evening, ML!

*HUGS*

Did not know that! What an outrage!

Sadly, there will always be those who will take or destroy that which the greatest among us will create. I once had a hand-spun calendar in my kitchen with pictures of Pennsylvania Covered Bridges, one of which stands over the Conodoguinet Creek next to a farm that my Father used to own. It has been thirty-five years since I drove over that bridge, and I do not know whether it still stands. Mpst of the bridges depicted on that calendar are gone.

The calendar bears the legend "The hands and brains of soulless men / Destroy what time will never build again."

How apropos in this beniohted time!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

The Gardiner Museum was a treasure and part of Boston’s heritage. I spent many hours there as a child. Mrs. Jack (Isabella Stewart Gardiner) had never been accepted by Boston’s Blue Blood society, but she was very rich, so she had the Palace imported from Venice, stone by stone, and rebuilt in Boston’s Back Bay. She filled it with the world’s best art, and left in her will that it was for The People of Boston to Enjoy.

So all us “Hoi polloi” got to enjoy Rembrandt and other wonderful art for free.

I think there is a small fee now, probably to pay for security.
