Rather than going for full repeal, start passing popular “poison pill” legislation that dismantles it piece by piece.

Exactly right! To repeal the whole thing, at this point, would mean, for example, that a few million people lose Medicaid, and lot of 20-somethings get kicked off their parents' insurance. The Dems have instant constituencies against repeal.

But that's no excuse for doing nothing. Do it piece-by-piece, and start with what is far and away the most unpopular piece: the individual mandate.
