"Powerful incindiary shells"...?

I don't know what they're refering to and I'm real sure they don't know either.

If I am reading article correctly- this all took place at least 10 yrs ago.
Why the sudden interest, am I missing something?

Much ado about nothing. From the article:

“I sent them .50 calibre shells called Raufoss rounds,” Logan says.

“The Americans used them to annihilate miles of Saddam Hussein's tanks in Iraq. I can't stress how powerful they are.

“These shells are armour piercing. They penetrate the vehicle they're fired at, then explode and ignite. They can incinerate everything and everybody inside.

“I bought 20 of them for just $10 a piece at a gun show. I sent them to Spike. On my next visit to Ireland, he said he was delighted with them. The look on his face was priceless.

“He told me he'd personally tested one of them on a scrap car down South. He said, ‘Wow, they're good. They really do the business.' There are still 19 of these rounds out there. Somebody somewhere in Ireland has them.”

The IRA has been at this for close to a century now; these are the long-time buddies of the PLO and other Islamic terrorists, don’t forget. They have no doubt that they know what they have, even if some press drones do not.

What the US used for anti-armor in Iraq is depleted uranium rounds in 120mm tank rounds, in 25mm in the Bradley fighting vehicle, and the 30mm gun on the A10. These are kinetic rounds that have a spalding effect that's consequences possibly are the incendiary effect that the article mentions. I don't see the IRA having a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, an M1 tank, or an A10. Unless these rounds are some type of .50 cal, I don't think there is much applicability. The man may be as wicked as the article suggests, but a lot of these guys are also blowhards when it comes to ordnance.

I know about the long standing contact the IRA has with other terrorists groups.

Anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916 just past this week? Wikipedia has an article on it for quick info. For entertaining info look up Foggy Dew by the New Dubliners.

And just where and how did he acquire all of those munitions and guns? .....Had to be crooked Federal govt. sources that had access to the goods and the ability to divert them, as well as allowing them to be shipped out of country.

Yes, of course. They’re called APIC-T. However, you are talking about the tanks the US destroyed in Iraq, the number destroyed by .50 caliber rounds would be pretty far down the line. Also, while they’d be a bad thing in the hands of a terrorists organization, the number they’re talking about (19 rounds) is not a great number. They’re bullets, not nukes.

It’s a British press. They get all in a dither about .22 caliber ammunition, too.

Fortunately, no one would want GB in her current state. It’s no wonder that Scotland wants independence.

Agreed but the Provos are not going after MBTs, but lightly protected personnel carriers.

But yeah, what are they going to do with 19 rounds that they couldn’t do far more effectively with IEDs? Also, they need a gun to fire them from. Did this guy sell them a Barrett too?

The article is pretty drama queen-ish.
