Californias inhospitable tax policies may have struck again, this time costing Los Angeles one of its largest employers. According to multiple sources close to the situation, Toyota will be relocating its US headquarters from the LA suburb of Torrance to Plano, Texas.
The company has yet to notify its employees of the news, but is expected to do so Monday, followed by a public announcement. While its unlikely that Toyota, which is ranked 8th on Fortunes Global 500, will directly cite taxes as the reason for its relocation, it should come as little surprise that the financial burden of operating in California both on the corporation and its employees personally played a major role.
A number of early stage entrepreneurs, including Pando contributor Bryan Goldberg, have discussed publicly their decisions to start companies outside of California. Now, it appears that frustration has moved its way up the economic food chain.

Good for you but moving from Orange County, one of the reddest parts of California. It’s not like you moved from San Francisco.
Close to home. Sad.
I’m thinking of leaving next year too. I can’t believe it. This is truly paradise weather and beauty wise. But for a lot less you can live a nice life elsewhere.
I’ve fallen in love with Nashville but Denver looks pretty good too.
The rally was in OC, but my folks lived in long beach....
I remember on election day they had the booths labelled.... and one in ten or less was marked Republican.
Try Colorado Springs...the Vatican of the Evangelical Church.
I'm going to take a stab at that one.
Ummm...because liberals are full of $hit?
And take a big fat guess WHY they don't trust New York politicians.
Because they lie, all of the time.
You'd have to be a special kind of stupid to move your business to NY.
Enjoy 10 tax-free years, then blammo!
Surprise, you're now on the hook for insane amounts of taxes.
Only a fool would even think of moving to NY.
An avalanche of AWESOME!
Moonbeam FAIL alert! We voted for another
old washed out lib for governer. Instead of a successful business CEO. There you have it!
Toyota is a union shop?
>>Seems every so often the colors on the presidential election map get switched ....
This is similar to Leftists in the U.S. morphing from being Progressives, to being Liberals, etc.
Red was the color of Communism and the Left for more than 100 years. The media switched up the colors all at once in the 2000 election. It appears a calculated move.
” or extract more money from them.”?
You hear that Calif. is thinking of taxing citizens who flee the high taxes from the state?
We have rapid transit in Texas! It’s called a pickup truck. Mine is a Chevy 2500 hd 4x4.
You betcha.
Went to the Toyota Center for an event recently. Decided we would take the train downtown rather than deal with traffic and parking. Train suddenly shut down and we were asked to get off. Part of the track was shut down for routine maintenance and we ended up walking a good portion of the way. Fortunately it was on Sunday morning and all the baddies were still in bed so the streets were relatively safe. Ended up taking a taxi back to our car. What a joke. Certainly won’t do that again.
The article states that Toyota is going to move 5,000 jobs, not 5,000 people. I was involved with a company that relocated from Anaheim to the Midwest. Guess what. No one wanted to make the move. The jobs moved, but the people who lived in Southern California did not want to make the move. My bet is that the company officers and other high ups make the move, but they back fill with people who are already in North Dallas.
I bet a lot more than that. This could be a disaster for LA and California.
By the way,I love it.
I think Gov. Perry has read "Atlas Shrugged" and is trying to turn Texas into "Galts Gulch".
“My daughter deals with them often and sweetly tells them this is how we do things in Texas.”
LOL. Your daughter is sweeter than my bud in TX. Whenever his lib anti-gun family members visit he says over the phone, “sure I’ll pick you up at the airport, but I have to make sure my guns can fit where you guys are sitting”
