Buying an NBA team means that the prospective owner agrees with the NBA's rules. It is doubtful that he can be removed as owner for his foul mouth, but Sterling could probably be suspended indefinitely and be removed from day-to-day contact with the team. Even if they can't make him sell, they can make things uncomfortable for him.

It is impossible for me to have any sympathy for Sterling because he agreed in writing to whatever the NBA rules are when he bought the team. He didn't have to buy the team, but he did, and now he has to play by NBA rules, whatever they happen to be.

Don't like the NBA's rules? Don't buy an NBA team. It is that simple. All franchisees in every sort of business agree to follow franchise rules. McDonald's franchisees can't sell pizza. Chick-fil-A franchisees can't open on Sundays.

What's next for NBA in Donald Sterling case from a legal standpoint? Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nba/news/20140426/donald-sterling-la-clippers-adam-silver-nba/#ixzz308z4y7cg
