What a great statement. Thanks so much.
It had already begun but intensified with Santy Claus, Xmas,
Easter bunnies, egg hunts, etc.
National holidays became “long weekends” and big fireworks shows according to the smiling faces on TV who had something timely to say which was all scripted. Our holidays, most on Mondays, became escapes from having to report to work and excuses to go out of town and spend money.
Fill-in reporters, TV anchors and DJs, weather talkers, and recent graduatess auditioning on-air for those broadcast jobs had no idea what America was all about but could talk on and on about Mother Nature this and Mother Nature that.
Eventually, America got fouled up during my generation. Which is why I feel responsible to clean up the mess we made. Easier said than done, unfortunately. But, FR is a place to start.
Just adding a little to what you posted.
I already celebrate Camerone Day on April 30th.
As I understand it George had a very rich prayer life.
Bump!
So did the ACLU file a lawsuit over this?
Mine, too- but I’m only hitting 50 (which just seems odd- I can’t remember having been around that long).
Happy Birthday to both of you.
My eldest brother will be 78 that day.
I hear you.
I am happy to say, though, that Flag Day, June 14, is not forgotten in Baltimore at Ft. McHenry, the location of the battle that inspired Key to write the “Star Spangled Banner”.
Thank you so much for posting that. God bless.
//From George Washington’s inaugural address:
No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.//
Perfect addition to consider on this occasion: shows where Washington’s head and heart were!
I’ve been to Fort McHenry and climbed the stairs in the old Lighthouse...We went in March 2003 right after Bush declared war on Hussein (Saddam) and the entrances had 2 guards and they did a solid search on our vehicle before we could go on base to the lighthouse section.
I don’t think that there is a lighthouse at Fort McHenry in Baltimore....
Thanks for ping. I don’t want to lose this.
