The biggest lesson in Nevadas Bundy Ranch standoff is how its angered conservative America, conservative commentator Ann Coulter said, urging Republicans to channel that passion in the most effective way possible.
Republicans and conservatives ought to learn, be careful before you choose a mascot, Coulter said Friday in an interview with CNNs Bill Weir.
In a comparison sure to anger some of rancher Cliven Bundys most vocal supporters, Coulter likened the Nevada cattle battle to the ineffectual Occupy Wall Street demonstrations of 2011, when thousands of unwashed, unemployed and unhappy young people took to the streets to protest not getting milk and cookies before their afternoon nap.
I never thought this was a great cause, Coulter said of Bundys battle. I dont see much difference between whats going on at that ranch and Occupy Wall Street.
The fallout from Bundys comments about slavery which liberals heralded from the moment they broke in The New York Times on Wednesday helps make Coulters point that flash-in-the-pan protests like Bundys are diversions from bigger concerns over the direction the country is taking in the age of Obama.
That anger needs to be channeled productively and thats something prominent conservatives who should be leading the movement are failing to do, Coulter said.
Theres a lot to be angry about, and people want to punch back, Coulter said, listing as boiling points Obamacare and the growing number of states approving gay marriage and legalizing marijuana.
But what I think is happening is people we look to be leaders to direct that justified anger are instead being followers, she said.
Stop following the mob youre supposed to direct the mob, who have a legitimate grievance.
The libs are going to love hearing Coulter call conservative activists the mob, but theyd be missing the point, as usual. Her message is that conservatives arent just the Occupy movement with better hygiene. A raft of issues with major implications for Americas future are at a tipping point, and turning them in the right direction requires effective political organization not just foot-stomping or camera-hogging.
That means the conservative movement needs leaders who arent getting distracted by another romantic mascot who may turn out rightly or wrongly to be an embarrassment.
There is legitimate anger, she said. We see these random explosions here and there where it ought to be directed to something useful and directed at something we can do something about.

“Ann Coulter and Bill OBaxter are both knee jerk elitist idiots.”
They just masquerade as conservatives, their real agenda is to keep conservative in line. They’re just a tool for the liberal establishment. With the exception of a few, you really can’t trust any of those so-called conservatives who functions in the establishment media. I’m starting to turn more towards alternate news sources to keep informed.
Bump. She needs to try something new. She needs to ask Mylie Cyrus for pointers.
Just stop buying her books, stop clicking on her opinion links, and stop watching her appearances on Hannity. Let her dry up and blow away.
Be careful before you choose a mascot, says Ann. Apparently she doesn’t take her own advice since she’s all for running Romney again.
Bundy/Occupy ping
I see Bill Maher and Chris Christie in Ann Coulter. Stop acting like she is, was, or could be the conservative female spokesperson. She aint.
Not much. They won't even enforce the Constitution. And most Republicans despise the right to keep and bear arms, secretly, in their Washington soirees, when the liquor is flowing and the cheap girls are ho-ing.
After decades of watching conservatives slink away protesting that they were not racist what I liked about Michael Savage is he grabbed such contumely by the neck and flung it right back at the Left.
Look at super rich blacks like Oprah Winfrey saying all the old white folks should just die, that's what will cure racism. Total acceptance by the public. They came for the "racists" (guilty or not) but I . . . .
How have some of these normally professional conservative pundits forget to wait for the rest of the story?
yep, there is a big issue here - and she missed it. She is right on the bigger point, however. A conservative leader, one with some media savvy, should have taken the lead on this - AND helped shelter Bundy from the media and himself.
This person, (Cruz?) could have kept the heat on Harry and his hired thugs in the BLM. I haven’t heard Cruz say anything about the Red River border wars - has anybody else?
Given that the issue is, at bottom, a state vs federal matter, it was the governor's job to have stood with Bundy.
Sandoval missed an opportunity to become the leader of a movement.
Similarly, it will be the job of the Texas governor to lead the opposition to any BLM land grab on the Red River. I've no doubt that both Perry and Abbott will be up to the job.
Her basic point is correct. There’s huge energy out here in flyover country and our so called leaders aren’t giving it a channel.
Ann is a statist, socialite, media whore.
She is the equivalent of political point shaver...Wanting the elite (of both Parties) to win, but not big enough to impact her conservative ATM scam. Do yourself a favor and ignore every word that passes over her forked tongue, no matter what the issue. It’s all pandering for either your money or for Party invitations.
She has been accepted into the high brow, better than thou club. It changes people, making them believe they are better because of money.
Jumping the shark are we, Annie?
Yes, you’re right. Sandoval gave lip service, but didn’t get out in front of the cause.
Perry and Abbot have made it very clear that the BLM will be met with resistance in Texas - the clear implication was military resistance.
How do we shut her up? Ann, Mitt Romney thats the ticket.
