Arthur G. Coons was one of Occidental College’s greatest presidents. Decades ago, a major road running through the campus was named for him—Coons Drive. However, a year or two ago, some students complained the name was somehow racist—and the administration gave in, renaming it AGC Drive.

everybody has a story.
I saw a science channel show on it, and it was a local guy down south somewhere who bought them and released them in a backwater of a major river system that is what they say caused the plague.
I have heard other stories that contradict both yours and mine....

I guess all the text books and history books that talk about Davy Crockett’ls coonskin cap will have to be trashed.
And how ‘bout ‘coon hunters and ‘coon dogs...

Do you even have a clue where the word gook originated from? Hint, it really isn’t derogatory at all.

Do you even have a clue how the word is actually used? Hint, it is really derogatory, even if the word started as a term for hugs and kisses (which it didn’t).

A new name that should make (almost) everyone happy: White Man Fish, because it is a nuisance that needs to be exterminated.

I believe "gook" comes from the Korean word for "country" or "state"--and is related to "kuo" in Chinese and "quốc" in Vietnamese, which mean the same thing.

Wrong. In the Korean language, the term for Korean people is Hangook, for whites it is megook. As American troops arrived on the Korean peninsula back in the early fifties, traveling through small villages the korean people shouted megook, megook. That is how the term originated. That is your history lesson for the day.

It goes back further than the Korean war and it actually doesn’t matter where, how or why the word was originally used.
