Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said he believes some type of amnesty legislation could pass this year.
Appearing at Harvard's Institute of Politics, Paul again said that he voted against the Senate's immigration bill because there were not enough visas for construction and farm workers and said he still thought "something could be passed this year" on immigration. Legislation has stalled after Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted the House GOP leadership's "immigration principles" as amnesty.
Paul then told the Harvard students that about 40% of illegal immigrants came to the country legally. Though many of these now illegal immigrants have overstayed their visas, Paul claimed that most of these illegal immigrants simply just got new jobs. He has also previously said that these illegal immigrants simply lost their documents.
The Congressional Budget Office has determined that the Senate's immigration bill would lower the wages of Americans workers, and Paul said he was against restrictions on visas that prevented immigrants from working in other fields. Paul, who is reportedly courting wealthy libertarian donors for a potential 2016 presidential bid, has been speaking up in favor of more visas and various forms of amnesty for country's illegal immigrants.
Earlier this week at the University of Chicago's Institute for Politics, Paul backed work visas for all of the country's illegal immigrants and said they should not be forced to leave the country when applying for citizenship. The day after his remarks, in a sign that Republicans may not win over Hispanics just by passing immigration reform, Latino leaders in Wisconsin promptly slammed him as being "offensive."(continued)

These “republicans” are hell bent on destroying this country. Is a few millions worth it to them to see the USA destroyed?
Romney himself was busted for illegals, the same crew, twice.
We are really talking about 30-60 million NEW immigrants.
The reason for my statement is this: The 10-20 million illegals will get lonely. So what will they do if granted AMNESTY?
Why. they will send for their wives, husbands, children, parents, cousins, and other relatives, and cowardly politicians like Sen. McCain will quickly grant their requests.
So, instead of just 10-20 million illegals receiving American benefits when they receive AMNESTY, we will now see 3 times that amount, more like 30-60 million new immigrants suddenly trying to take advantage of AMNESTY.
So AMNESTY must NOT be granted during Obama's LAST TERM in office.
He has also previously said that these illegal immigrants simply lost their documents.

Try claiming in some other country that you had simply lost your visa documents. ....You would be being bars!
Rand P. seems hell-bent on disqualifying himself as a potential candidate, if he hasn’t already done so. I know he’s lost me as a vote!
Libertarians and liberals put the cart before the horse when it comes to illegal immigration.
You cannot have both a generous welfare state with free school free healthcare and subsidized housing and open borders. You have to pick one.
I agree—what’s scary is, the clock’s ticking—who can we get who’s:
1. On America/the people’s side.
2. Can/is willing to fight and win.
who is out there for us?
...11 million or so will be quickly reduced by self-deportation.
***************************
That 11 million figure was being used back in 2006, and it was low then. Since few actual deportations take place, the figure for illegal aliens of all stripes is probably closer to 20-30 million.
I believe it was Louie Gohmert I saw on FNC this afternoon who said nothing was going to happen until the border was secured AND that around 60% of Hispanic American citizens WANT the border closed. ...The illegals are undercutting them on wages and causing them to lose their jobs; plus, many of the legal Hispanics paid their fees and waited their turns to come to America. .........I don’t see anything comprehensive being done until the Pubs control Congress and the White House. No one trusts the Obama regime to enforce laws.
FURP!! Amnesty pimps need not apply!!
Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
ping
He meant they came on visa and overstayed. They overstay because they know that no one will be looking for them.
And they vote too.
