The government doesn't grant rights. Therefore the government didn't give the people raising a ruckus in the '60s any more rights than they had. What the government did do was grease the skids so the selfsame people who had previously been encouraged to excel no longer had to do so. Some favor. People who had previously been determined to better their lot through hard work now found it no longer necessary. The family breadwinner became optional, then a burden (reduced benefits). The family broke down for any in thrall to the Government, and once again, millions had a master, who could bestow benefits or take them away almost at a whim: the Government.
Freedom?
No, just a different style of chains.
God bless everyone who did not opt in, who remained independent, who worked hard to be their best, and who kept their families together.
And they are not the kind that some government will remove. Indeed, the government wants those chains!
