Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- A Virginia CHP holder, Guy Ackerman, inadvertently brought a handgun with him into NJ.
He discovered the gun in his car and rather than leave it in there with valet parking, he took the unloaded revolver to his room and locked it in the room safe. The valet had noticed the gun when it was in the car and told the police, who arrested Guy and charged him with unlawful weapon possession a felony in NJ.
The prosecutor is refusing to allow Guy an option to avoid jail time, an option that is normally available in such cases.
Guy is really in a tough spot. If he takes the prosecutors current deal, Guy will spend one year in prison before being able to apply for parole. If denied, he will have to serve up to three years. If he rejects the idea of a guilty plea and is found guilty in a trial, he then faces a minimum jail sentence of between five and ten years.
Of course, if he wins the trial, he would be free. However, we are talking New Jersey.
This is why I avoid New Jersey, preferring not to leave America.
Here is a web site that provides details on Guys situation, as well as a petition to sign asking that Guy be given the non-felony option: www.wesupportourguy.com

I will not assent to the idea that he was unusually careless. I don’t see how you think it’s relevant anyway.
What I’m saying is that we need to adopt an almost paranoid mentality that our very lives are in the cross hairs of the tyrants. They’re waiting for you to slip up so they can nab you too. You probably will, and already are because there’s no way to obey all their laws. They got this guy and you’re pretty okay with it?
The grapes were sour anyway. This guy was stupid anyway. Cognitive dissonance is acting in a way contrary to the way you know you should, then making excuses for it.
Why isn’t NJ forced to recognize Virginia’s law in the matter?
If this was sodomy, you’re darned right they would have to.
I think FOPA was supposed to protect against these abuses, but all it did apparently was ban the manufacture and importation of select-fire rifles.
Fairness, how quaint.
Twenty years ago, I would have thought you were a nut for saying this. Today, you're a prophet.
It's like deja vu all over again, as Yogi Berra would say.
Remember Rush’s Kook Test? I think even he would fail it now. Here it is. LOL.
1. Do you believe that powerful Americans are behind a world conspiracy to destroy the sovereignty of the
United States of America?
2. Do you believe that “New World Order” is a secret phrase used by conspirators to identify themselves to
one another in a crowd?
3. Do you believe that the Federal Reserve system exists primarily as an institution for the conspirators to
enrich themselves, while at the same time destroying the United States?
4. Do you believe that the eye in the pyramid on the dollar bill is a secret code of the New World Order?
5. Do you believe that David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, and other famous One Worlders provide daily
instructions to agents of the FBI, BATF, Interpol, and the CIA?
6. Do you believe the CFR and the Trilateral Commissions serve as the front groups to train and
indoctrinate future One Worlders, who seek to destroy the United States of America?
7. Do you believe that the Trilateral Commission was created because too many bright people were on to
the CFR and its insidious designs?
8. Do you believe that CFR black helicopters flown by UN pilots have been in the sky when American
citizens have been shot?
9. Do you believe that the feminist movement was the brainchild of David Rockefeller for the express
purpose of having men and women at war with each other, so as to be distracted on a daily basis from the
real work of the CFR, which is to destroy the sovereignty of the United States of America?
10. Do you consider Newt Gingrich to be a threat to your personal freedom?
If you have answered just one of these questions in the
affirmative, not two of ten, not six of ten, not eight of ten, if you have answered just one of these questions “yes”,
then you are a kook!
Guilty as charged!!! LOL!
I suppose there are good reasons (business, for example) to go to New Jersey but I would never step foot in that state.
I didn’t say a word about crossing state lines. You didn’t either. You said that every time you get in your truck you look at your console and try to think if that 1911 NEEDS to be there.
Not whether or not it is legal, or is going to be legal—you said NEEDS to be there.
I make a point of knowing where I am and where I am traveling and the laws that apply.
I don’t, by the way, leave weapons in my unattended vehicle either.
My weapon is always where I want it. I’ll let you and the government worry about your “needs”.
not a judge, not politically connected and of the wrong party persuasion in the People’s Republik of Maryland...
prosecutor (former)
regards
Check out Vermont. Their gun laws are even freer than those in NH.
Yes, I know it's hard to believe, but it's really true!
Agreed. I tire of the “accident” BS. If you are not aware at all times where your weapons are, then too dam bad.
No. Stop debating what you would LIKE the law to be rather than what the law IS. Of course we want the law to be LIKE YOU want it to be, but it is not. Getting yourself arrested will not change it, unless this poor soul decides to spend millions suing up to the Supremes. I doubt he will.
...and he is an ABSOLUTE IDIOT for letting someone else DRIVE HIS CAR.
Where I come from, if they want to drive your car, THAT MUCH, then I find ANOTHER place to eat.
He deserves just what he gets.
“Where I come from, if they want to drive your car, THAT MUCH, then I find ANOTHER place to eat.
He deserves just what he gets.”
He deserves one to three years in jail for letting someone else drive his car?
I hope you are never on a jury.
