I’ve come to the conclusion that all incumbents are in a club that keeps incumbents in office. Every now and then they let a new guy win. And that’s only because the incumbent wanted to retire.

That’s very true. But lately (that is, since 2010), it’s been a lot harder for incumbents to get reelected or for the preferred to get there. We thwarted Mike Castle and Charlie Crist, removed Arlen Specter, Bob Bennett, Richard Lugar and made Lisa Murkowski fight for her life.
We’re also forcing them to spend all their time fundraising because they’ll need it to spend to destroy. Their “warchests” aren’t scaring people away anymore.
We’re all watching their every move, and their games aren’t working anymore. And they don’t like it. They may be in control and may be able to retain power, but the congress isn’t such a fun place to be anymore. There’s been an enormous amount of turnover since 2006, in both the Senate and the House.
I for one am going to keep fighting them.
