Wasn’t there some tea tossed about over a tariff?

"Wasn’t there some tea tossed about over a tariff?"

That was quite a racket, eh, tax revenues from American customers of foreign exporters going back to the government of the foreign exporters?

I still don't blame American-"based" operations on foreign soil except for the few who've regulated against manufacturing on U.S. soil with environmentalist false fronts (individuals and NGOs). The regulations are most of the problem. The answer is to repeal regulations here and not only at the federal level. Enough support for repealing federal anti-competition regulations would start at county and state levels, or those at local levels will find ways on their own anyway.

There's something else. My bosses of the '70s said that competition is healthy for business and good for the economy--something that we no longer hear. The problem of national moral bankruptcy needs to be solved, too. Hard times will be the answer for that one, IMO. The canard that poverty makes people do evil things is an old socialist idea. A few may go from legal but immoral office politics to committing more risky crimes after being laid off, but a longer period of poverty tends to set most people on more straight and narrow paths (little history there).
