Above: Gang colors that reportedly offended a Pizza Hut manager in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
According to a Facebook post by a user calling himself Rick Libertas Semper, a popular pizza chain refused to serve him because he was wearing four patches signifying his service as a U.S. Marine. According to his profile, he lives in Green Bay, Wis.
I decided to go to Pizza Hut for their lunch buffet after work and was approached by the manager who came to tell me that for the safety of the patrons and staff they do not allow people in the restaurant wearing gang colors, he wrote.
Of course, according to his account, the only gang his colors represent is the Marine Corps.
I was wearing my black leather jacket that has 4 patches and the back of the jacket is embroidered, he recalled. One patch says USMC, the other patch says Marine Combat Veteran, the 3rd patch is the unit patch for 3rd Marines 3rd Batallion and there is a patch of the US flag on it.
The back of his jacket, he explained, is covered by an embroidered USMC emblem.
I pointed out that these are not gang colors but represent one of the branches of our military, he wrote, explaining he is a veteran and has earned the right to wear them.
The manager, however, reportedly said he cant be expected to know the difference between patches so they just dont allow any of them in the restaurant.
The veteran recounted his experience as evidence that the world is full of idiots, though he recognized the incident was isolated and doesnt necessarily represent the views of all Pizza Hut franchises.
In a response to his initial post, he wrote that he believes it was just a case of a young manager trying to look like he was in control.
Nevertheless, reports of companies treating veterans with disrespect continue to surface across the nation. Making matters worse, our government is not only shrinking our active military ranks; it is providing fewer and fewer resources for those returning with physical and mental needs.
Wow, thank you. Color me surprised. About 14-15 years ago I had some customers there and in other parts of Wisconsin. Never would have thunk it.
My grandfather was born in Wisconsin and the family ‘emigrated’ from New England in the early to mid 1800’s. Our family was part of a ‘gang’ of Real Americans that included my great grandfather, killed as a result of wounds at Shiloh, and his siblings, one of whom was Laura Ingalls Wilder’s mother. So I have ties to Wisconsin, and we be a part of ‘we the people’ gangs. Our colors are worn proudly...Red, White, and Blue.
As they say, you can't fix stupid, but you sure can fire stupid so he will be someone else problem.
I started looking after reading this, it seems that they are trying hard to nip this in the bud. It seems most of it is coming in from other places—like Chicago. Hope they are able to stamp it out before it becomes a blaze.
If he wore this patch the pizza place would be required to serve him"
Stomp...stamped. Hope they have successful stomp it out. 2nd Amendment supporters/with CCL can help. Check you mail...
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
Yeah, I thought about it after I posted. It was too late so I just shrugged it off.
I know it won’t be the last time I mutilate a sentence with my terrible grammar. :p
I’ll try to do better.
Suprised the manager didn’t call the SWAT team to engage a potential PTSDer.
I ate at a Pizza Hut once.....ONCE.
frigging disgusting
If we're going to support the right of good Christian bakers to refuse business with a sodomite couple's celebration, we have to also support this idiot's right to be an idiot. This sort of thing should be settled in the free market. If the sodomites want to boycott a Christian baker, that's their business. I won't join them; I disagree with them. OTOH, if this pizza hut idiot were in my area, I'd refuse to do business with him. I agree with the Marine, not with Pizza the Hut.
Selling pizzas to random strangers without regard for their private lives or personal beliefs is not the same as actively participating in ceremonies celebrating their sins.
So ... what is your solution?
Mine is for FREE people to operate their commercial enterprises as they see fit, and for the FREE people in a FREE market to FREELY not patronize establishments whose owners/managers conduct business in a manner they dislike.
I’d have thought that model would be favored on FREE Republic.
Thanks for the update.
The vet should have stayed, particularly if the manager threatened to call the police. My answer would be, “Yes, by all means, please call the police. Do it now!”. Most managers would back down, fearful of bad publicity.
A Chinese restaurant I used to frequent for years suddenly and quietly began adding gratuity charges to the ticket. I prefer to decide what tip I shall pay. There was no indication anywhere until I ate and received the ticket. I called a waitress to explain the unexpected charge. She did, and I refused to pay it. She said, “You have to!” and I replied, “Oh, no, I don’t”. She threatened to call the manager and I smiled and said, “Would you please?”. The manager replayed the same spiel and I refused. He threatened to call the police and I said politely smiling, “Would you please? I will be glad to wait”. People nearby were starting to look around. The nervous manager backed down. Then I asked, “Shall I take my business elsewhere?” and he replied, “No, please come again”.
