IIRC, MERS and SARS were similar viruses. If so, has someone been messing with missing virus bits?

MERS and SARS are both coronaviruses.

Some common colds are also caused by coronaviruses.

Cats get a form of coronavirus that usually causes mild illness, but can mutate and become the deadly FIP virus.

Coronaviruses are common in many mammalian species.

MERS seems to have originated in camels, but we still know very little about it.
