In a Texas urban residential area, I know of several guys who trap the squirrel first, then shoot it, wrap it in a Wal-Mart sack, and store it in the freezer or a cool place until it can be put into the garbage can on pickup day. One marshmallow, one .22 LR or pellet, and one sack, and voila another one bites the dust. Reset trap and repeat.

Needless to say, there are many alternative ways to terminate the squirrel if noise is a problem or the resident’s aim would cause neighbours to fear for lives. Many prefer drowning to be more humane. Also, do not use high calibre ammunition as it may shorten the life of your trap. Sorry PETA, I just had to report it.

Also works for armadillos, possums, racoons, foxes, birds, cats, or any small mammal. Does not work for feral hogs.
