The question should be “Why didn’t they arm themselves many years ago?”
Nazi Germany should have been a clarion call to them to always be armed and to expect something like what happened in the past could (and would) happen in the future.

Why do we have to be the world's policeman? If Ukraine wants to be be part of the EU, go ask them for help.
Obama can arm the Jews in Ukraine. If he did his muzzie friends would complain. Also, you can’t be arming foreigners if you are confiscating the guns of Americans.
Former US Senator Obama is okay with sending guns to drug cartels. The alleged Christian in our White House is okay with sending guns to Islamic terrorists to replace brutal dictatorships with brutal anti-American theocracies. But would the drug-addled racist send guns so decent people can defend themselves? No. That could lead to violence, which is bad.

Obviously not a serious suggestion. Other than those with a demonstrated need and permit, gun ownership is illegal. The author only suggests a legitimate reason for the authorities to arrest Jews.
Collective action, outside the law. 200,000, tops, Jewish men, women and children cannot violently confront a nation of 45 million. Only create a reason for persecution.
Should it come to that, Israel will evacuate Jews as they have elsewhere. The US will watch.
Arming militias is only effective with training, and and in areas of contested or marginal control. There are plenty of African Christians who could use that type of help, of course we won't help. But it's not a solution in the Ukraine, nor has the need arisn
