Putin's Office Threatens To Mobilize | 2014-04-18 19:26:13
In a significant escalation of rhetoric, not only does Putin's press secretary admit that there are Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, but he says that they are there to respond if Russia is driven "into a corner." RFE/RL reports:
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Russia does have troops near the Ukrainian border and that some of those forces are stationed there "on a permanent basis."
Peskov said additional forces are in the area along Russia's border with Ukraine but only "as reinforcement aganst the background of what is going on in Ukraine."
Peskov also said Washington's threats of additional sanctions against Russia if Moscow does not adhere to the terms of an agreement reached yesterday in Gevena between top diplomats from Russia, Ukraine, the United States, and European Union were "absolutely unacceptable."
"We can mobilize our whole society if someone starts driving Russia into a corner," he said. "Thank God, it is impossible to drive Russia into a corner."
Previous to this, the Russian line has been that the troops were there as part of drills that are unrelated to the crisis in Ukraine. To our knowledge, the troop deployment has not changed, just the way Moscow is now talking about them.
Who is going to stop him?
No man alive. That’s why we need to pray for Ukraine.

It’s Obama’s fault for mentioning sanctions.
I’d say drive them into the corner.
Alert Andrews, King Barry is going on vacation again.
That’s not very friendly of them...
What a mess.
Remember a time when was working with a number of people that ran an office on wheels. Traveled everywhere and yes everyone stated our office is on wheels. Phone, pull down writing pad, pen, pager, etc.
“Thank God, it is impossible to drive Russia into a corner.”
It’s nice for a leader to reference God. Our dear communist leader would praise Allah.
yep had one of those in vehicle too. Thanks JRandom! A stapler was a must while being in a mobile office on wheels. Had a hole punch that came in handy every once in a while. Gee ... those were the days of gloom. Never saw the family unless flew them to where was or flew to them.
Should I mention the Irony of Russia reinforcing its own border, while DC leaves our own southern border wide open?
Put a case of Ruskova there.
“Id say drive them into the corner.”
Yeah, that’s smart, considering the whole episode is a creation of the U.S. State Department under Obama, and they have NUCLEAR WEAPONS...
Do you have a supplied bunker? Or will you be out fighting with the unwashed for the last scrapes of food in the radioactive dumpster?
Gosh ... I know this is a serious situation but at least everything and everyone will glow in the dark. That might be a plus?
“Who is going to stop him?”
Well, we have a striped down military with no CIC... Guess we can’t help.
My point exactly.
I doubt it.
I was a local CD assistant for several months, before they did away with local CD in the late 70’s. (Family political connections, empty slot, part-time HS job)
Because of that, I have an acute awareness of what a nuclear exchange could mean, and even that is probably rosier than it would be in reality.
Russian officials have mentioned more than once during this episode that they are a “Nuclear Nation”. We have inept leadership in DC bungling their way through this thing.
It does give me pause.
