Last year I went through Andrew Lloyd Webbers opera Jesus Christ Superstar, laying out his genius at using the basic building blocks of opera. I took a look at Gustav Mahlers Resurrection Symphony, a 90 minute behemoth that is nothing less than an entire theology expressed in music.
This year, Im going to do something different.
In 1786, Franz Joseph Haydn wrote a devotional meditation centered on the last words attributed to Christ. It was originally written for string quartet, a medium that Haydn himself invented. This is a 75 minute piece best absorbed when at prayer. Set it aside for the proper time.
My sound is still messed up but... 75 minutes is more than a ‘piece’! lol
I’ll have to listen laters...:(
Good Evening, Publius!
May you have a Blessed holy Week and Easter.
Thank you for The meditation by Haydn. I will be looking forward to a quiet time when i can listen to it in its entirety!
