Can I ask a stupid question?
Why are we supposed to be excited about 7.5 or 8 million sign ups, when we have been told that, before Obamacare, there were at least 40 million uninsured?
Even if, for sake of argument, we accept these numbers from the White House, aren’t there still tens of millions of uninsured who didn’t sign up????
Or, do Obama and his boys orchestrate things, and the media just don’t ask simple questions such as I just posed????
It’a all smoke and mirrors and we the taxpayer get left holding the bag...
Agreed, this seems to be the 900lb gorilla in the room. I don’t get it either. Shouldn’t *everyone* have coverage? Wasn’t that the goal? They’ve totally moved the goalposts and nobody is calling them out on it.
Factor in the 5-6 million who lost insurance and the net gain in sign-ups is less than 10% of the long-term uninsured, despite the legal MANDATE to buy insurance. Oh, and a significant percentage didn't buy insurance at all but just enrolled in Medicaid. And they don't discount those who signed up but haven't (and won't) pay.
Even setting all that aside... as for the sign-up numbers themselves, I consider the fact that the folks who couldn't provide a useful metric for months somehow managed to hit their (not-a-target) target number ON THE NOSE on the very last day (which in itself was extended by 3.5 months)... um... "highly suspect", to say the least.
