RICHMOND Virginia Republicans were supposed to be squirming by now. For months, their opposition to expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has put them at odds with some traditional allies in the business world.
Hospitals, the state chamber of commerce and corporate leaders have been calling, writing, visiting and buttonholing, pushing what they call the business case for expanding coverage to thousands of uninsured under the health-care law, with the federal government promising to pay most of the cost. Gov. Terry McAuliffe and other Democrats who favor expansion have been betting on that pressure to sway Republicans, particularly in rural areas where hospitals are often the largest employer and are eager for the financial girding that the coverage expansion would provide.

Steve Helber/AP - Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates William Howell, R-Stafford, gestures during a press conference at the Capitol in Richmond on March 25. Howell was joined by most of the Republican House caucus as they talked about the budget standoff.
Democrats are sooooo stupid, they are buying the BS from the left. God save us from such stupidity
I hope they stand firm.
In Tennessee, Gov. Bill Haslam (R [Rotten]) was tying to expand Medicaid but the Republican State Senate and House shut him down. Haslam’s fallback position was that he was going to have discussions with HHS about some “middle ground” but nothing has ever come of it.
Republicans are just as eager as Dims to expand government, particularly when hospital lobbyists and other big business types put the full court press on.
I hope the Republicans hang tough. They should; they have a super-majority and McAuliffe only won by a whisker.
Glad the conservatives in Nashville stood firm.
LOL!!!! Yeah, "fair and square" too, right?
Hold fast, VA GOPers!!!!
I’m still disgusted every time I hear about McAuliffe as the Governor of the great state of Virginia. He exemplifies everything wrong with the political process today.
A shameless political animal who happily neglected his wife for campaign fundraisers. Even Dems thought this guy was a moral black hole. Yet he won because he had money and no one ran in the primary against him.
Right! No fraud whatsoever.
Given that the source of this assertion is the Washington Post, I would do a fact check.
I seriously doubt that the business world wants more big government and more Obamacare.
The Washington Post is a propaganda agent for the Democrats, and willingly spin all information to the advantage of the Dems.
In addition McAuliffe has been caught in a big lie about Medicaid expansion, insisting that he would NEVER use the budget of the State of Virginia as hostage to force Obamacare on the people of the commonwealth.
Notice how the WP generalizes about "traditional" allies, and the need to cover the "poor." Who would argue with that? Where are the details?
Maybe a recall election for McAuliffe is in order. IMO Virginia does not need liars as "leaders."
this will soon be known as a “tea party temper tantrum” ...
Oddly, they could probably win medicare expansion if they just pushed it independently. But hijacking the budget actually made it easier to oppose for the republicans.
And now we get to point out how Terri and the democrats are willing to take money from teachers, children, and police just to blackmail the republicans into supporting his medicare plan.
If they don’t pass a budget, a lot of traditional democratic constituencies are going to be hurt.
