Sounds like Germany has a bit of catching up to do if they want to be a credible deterrent to Moscow. But so far, Europe is nothing but a power vacuum as they, like the Democrats, REALLY BELIEVED that we were in the “The End of History” as some dunce cap was saying in the 1990s, as well as Bush-41 talking about a “New World Order”.
Looks like both were wrong - business as usual - those that have the (military power) have the power, period.
They've been counting on Uncle Sam to keep the barbarians at bay while pretending that peace was the result of Europeans suddenly becoming more civilized than non-European untermenschen. The moment the US pulls out of NATO, the international news section is going to become much more eventful, crowding out the human interest items that now predominate.
