That jackass, president Bush, banned the importation of anything produced by the China North Industries. The only thing I am aware they were sending here were some really neat copies of older American guns such as the 97 Winchester pump, the M1911 .45acp. The 1887 Winchester Lever Action shotgun, the Walther Olympia, 22 target pistol also the BRNO .22 rifle.
I am sure there was a bunch more but I lost any respect I had for Bush after that. I almost forgot, the Polytech AK-47 type semi auto. and Tokarev pistols.
What was his beef with those folks?
As for the replicas, I’d wonder how reliable they were. Made in China = might blow up in your face.
I remember the Bush 41 import ban being based on a list of firearms by name, resulting in things like the B-West and similar roll marked AKS rifles (legal AKs, disassembled and rebuilt on new receivers with non-banned markings). They may have stopped sending the bayonets with the rifles at that point, too.
As far as the total ban of Chinese-built firearms (and ammo), that came later under Clinton. That's when the Chinese SKS pipeline finally slammed shut.
