DERRY, N.H. Democrats have called Scott Brown a carpetbagger and suggested the former Massachusetts senator is going to stick out in New Hampshire like a flamingo in the White Mountains. But the unusual demographics of this state might blunt that attack and help Brown resurrect his political fortunes on fresh territory.
Contrary to the popular stereotype of the New Hampshire voter as a flinty, 10th-generation farmer who traces his roots to a soldier in the Continental Army, about two-thirds of New Hampshire adults were born in another state and a quarter of them were born in Massachusetts.

Even in an era of mobility, New Hampshire stands out for its abundance of transplants: Only six states have a smaller proportion of native-born residents, according to Kenneth M. Johnson, the senior demographer at the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire.
This influx of residents is one reason Republicans feel hopeful about Browns ability to shake off the interloper label.
Over the last five decades, New Hampshire, once a bastion of old-line Yankee Republicans, has turned more Democratic. But the politically potent southern part of the state has become more conservative as it has filled with residents fleeing Massachusetts in search of less expensive housing, lower taxes, and a more libertarian ethos.
Pit bulls ran amuck in the neighborhood I just vacated...owners were thugs from (you guessed it) Connecticut.
That's what happens when you get your info from the Union-'Leader' or Channel 9... :-)

Not surprised. ..sad
I retired here to be near the kids and take advantage some inheritance tax advantages.
My GGGReat Grandmothers family were from NH could my cousins in Utah run here.
Scott Brown betrayed many of the people who supported him when he ran the first time as a conservative and stayed home after he turned out be a limp dick Republican.

Scott Brown was born in Maine.
Well, I have been living in NH since 1983 (escaped NJ and went to collage here and never left).
In my opinion (for what it's worth) and based on what I see, the old time NH Yankees are dying off or sell out and go down south.
The kids who grow up here tend to leave after collage for the big cities.
The people who move here, namely the “Mass-holes” as some would call them, are escaping Mass due to taxes (if they live and work in NH) and/or gov’t regulations. They tend to be conservative and live mainly in the southern part of the state and commute to Mass for work.
One of the main reasons the state has turned “Blue” in recent elections is due to the “Same Day Registration” laws for voting with virtually no checking if the information is correct.
The stories of bus loads of young people roving from town to town during election day is not a fairy tale as some might have you believe. Many people I know (and one of them is a NH State Senator) have seen this first hand. Mainly in the cities (Portsmouth on the coast, and Manchester and Concord inland).
The town of Durham which hosts UNH unleashes the collage kids to vote all over the place.
I'm not sure how Brown will play here. Many people see him as a sell out of those who put him in office down in Mass. At least that is from my experience with people I meet.
I can tell you on thing, Brown's support of the AWB went over like a Lead Balloon with many people. We like our firearms and 2nd Amendment freedoms up here.
"Scott Brown was born September 12, 1959 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard."

Scott Brown actually makes the race competitive at this point. NH has 3 other folks running in the GOP Karen Testerman, Jim Reubens, and Bob Smith. Karens a real nice lady but cant get anything jumpstarted. Jim s a moderate and into global warming. Bob Smith was a senator got sour grapes when he didnt get nominated for President and changed to an Independent. He got primary out in the following election cycle and moved to Florida. Needless to say Jean Shaheen had nothing to worry about. Browns entry actually makes her pretty nervous. The NH GOP is run on a shoe string budget(party chair is a volunteer spot) and the grassroots isnt known for having deep pockets. Brown can at least raise money. Hes certainly not perfect(not great on 2nd amendment) but his voting record would be certainly better than shaheen who votes democrat 99% of the time. NH is a really odd state of moderates, conservatives and libertarians. Reuben has the backing of some of the libertarians groups even though he supported a carbon tax. Politics makes strange bedfellows sometimes. Bob Smith is really a mystery on why he is running.. He blew it years ago.
Yes, but he wasn’t born at the shipyard. Just over the bridge is Kittery, Me.
Well tell the State of Maine to stop taxing every one that works there...
Seriously, the base had a hospital for years... good chance Brown was born there and not in Portsmouth...
The admin post address is Portsmouth Nh due to the fact the kittery me post office is really small...
when Brown was born, there were 3 hospitals in the area: Pease AFB, Newington, NH. or Portsmouth, NH the base was in two towns on the map, Portsmouth City Hospital and the Portsmouth Naval Base Hospital, Kittery Maine..
All sort of Portsmouth, NH but the details matter. I don’t care what is dads orders were either... was he born in the Portsmouth Hospital or at the Portsmouth Naval base Hospital?
