Why The Feds Chickened Out On A Nevada Ranch
Townhall.com ^ | 4-12-2014 | Kevin McCullough

Let me obliterate a bit of confusion here: the Obama administration attempted to go to war with a rancher in Nevada. Let me amplify a little bit of truth: They tucked tail and have returned home. And let me add a bit of clarity: they had no choice!

As the nation began to become familiar with the plight of the family of Cliven Bundy, many of us harkened back to another standoff in which the Federal government attempted to bully it's outcome: Waco, Texas and the Branch Davidian massacre.

It is telling that in the Nevada case the feds pulled out so quickly, given all they had indicated they were willing to do to resolve the matter to their satisfaction. They had set up a perimeter around the Bundy's family land, ranch, and home. They had brought in extra artillery, dogs, and snipers. They were beginning the process of stealing more than 300 head of cattle that did not belong to them.

They did so--or so we were told--for the reason of protecting the desert tortoise. But then it was revealed that the Bureau of Land Management had shot far more desert tortoises than the Bundy cattle had even possibly destroyed. We were told they did it because the Bundys had broken federal laws by not paying what amounted to retroactive grazing fees to the federal government. But the Governor of the state of Nevada told us that Bundy had paid every ounce of state tax, met the state requirements, and their family had been improving the property more than 100 years previous.

Finally we were allowed to know the connection between a communist Chinese wind/solar power plant and its connection to that senator named Harry Reid. Evidently a plan had been hatched to use the Bundy property for a solar farm and instead of paying the Bundys, someone, somewhere in the administration believed it was easier to just take what they wanted.

That approach is at least consistent with the readily documented abuse of imminent domain where the government for any number of reasons--few of them valid--have taken to taking what doesn't belong to them. Americans then watch as it gets handed over to some multi-national corporation for the "cause" of the "greater good."

There were a few specific reasons why the feds chickened out in the Nevada desert though.

1. Technology - As the Bundy family members were abused, cameras captured it. Not television network cameras, but dozens of cell phone video devices that gave witness to a Bundy aunt being shoved to the ground, and a Bundy son being tazed. All of this while threatening protestors with dogs, brandished weapons and vehicles was captured, uploaded and made viral to the watching world.

2. States' Rights - As the drama unfolded it became clear that the Governor of Nevada, and the Sheriff of Clark County knew that Cliven Bundy's family had not only not broken any state law regarding the land, but that they had gone to the enth degree to insure compliance with Nevada laws on the property. The Governor and the Sheriff, to their credit, did not favor the feds as a more powerful party in the conflict. Though there must have been pressure from Senator Reid's office, the administration via the Bureau of Land Management, and local officials who were bought and sold like the Clark County Commissioner who told those coming to support the Bundys to have "funeral plans in place."

3. Grassroots Response - As other incidents have transpired in the past, the amount of time it took honest information to reach the grassroots and thus the response to the action came to slow. In the massacre in Waco, most of the nation had been sold a single narrative from the limited media outlets covering the events. Similarly the events surrounding the abduction of Elian Gonzales from his family in Florida and deportation to Cuba took place in such a response vacuum that by the time Americans knew the real story, the damage was done. With the Bundy ranch, internet outlets by the dozen had competing information with the limited "official news" being released by the networks, and in most cases the alternative sources had it correct and usually a full day or so ahead of the news cycle. By the time afternoon drive hit, when the network news rooms in New York were preparing their first stories, talk radio audiences had already been dialing their elected officials in Washington demanding action.

The majority of Americans saw through the efforts to spin the story in Nevada. Couple that with the leadership failures that the American people view the administration responsible for, from Benghazi to the Affordable Care Act, all it took was the unedited video of federal agents tazing Bundy's son, followed by his pulling the wires from his chest and continuing to stand his ground for there to be comparisons made to the American revolution.

It's also important to note that merely pulling back from the Bundy property hasn't settled the matter for the American people either.

The feds have stolen 352 head of cattle, and will not confirm or deny if they euthanized some or all of them. Recompense must be made. And to be candid, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see if a few ambitious law firms don't try to convince the Bundy family of the validity of litigation.

Fortunately for the American people, the feds were not able to ultimately bully a simple rancher, not for a tortoise, a solar power plant, or a dirty Senator and his administration.

We owe the Bundy family a great deal of thanks for standing tall.

For if the federal government is allowed to do it with one, then there will be nothing stopping them from doing it again.

He's the son-of-a-big-donor action hire. Surprised Reid didn't hire his jewelry-making actress granddaughter to run the BLM. HIs corruption is so entrenched.

I'm off to bed y'all. Nite!

Thanks for the link. Bookmarked.

Republicans cited his age (35) in questioning whether he had the necessary experience to run a government department. The Senate approved him 71-28.

Judging by the many corrections and cursings I see ... must be.

They will clamp down even harder to suppress video, all the right reasons to get the best gear thats compact and portable.
When I heard the cell towers were shut down my thoughts were I hope someone had a contingency plan such as a sat phone, or just a simple courier by bike, atv, horse or even if it has to be by a drone we control.

I would have loved to see the BLM see our drones hovering and filming.
And about getting tased, thats was some super mojo shit on Bundys part or indeed the officer had the taser dialed down for HIS safety and not Bundy. There are ways to counter a taser from wearing certain types of clothing such as ballistic cloth or carbon fiber.
the poster that tried to get info about who was going there should be on a FR Wall of Shame list.

Also one must bear in mind next time it won’t be one or two posters, better to say you are afar and being an armchair general than saying you will be 200 yards concealed.
Lastly in my humble opinion fast travel arrangements should always be the option. Getting there fast and being completely dependent, you bring your own gear, food, shelter and toilet.
i was just waiting for someone to post an image from a Tom Selleck movie where he is facing down a company of Her Queens soldiers in Australia (Quigley Down Under)and is about to be fired upon and then a dustwind comes and goes and thousands of armed aborigine natives are all up on the hills to back him up.

No, I didn’t see the video, but that’s not what I was asking about. I’ll take peoples words about the video. I don’t need the aggravation of watching it.

What I wanted links too where the so-called agent-provocateurs trolling on FR, the post references 2 of them.

Congress needs to have hearings on this, along with the USDA. According to Bundy, the USDA once claimed 140 of his cows had rabies. That claim needs to be explored. This is likely another Louis Lerner kind of coordinated corruption.

Thank you so much for sharing the information from your brother. I have not seen that anywhere else. With Harry Reid in that state it immediately made me suspicious when this story first broke. It was such overkill. I found some videos from sheriff Tony DeMeo in Nye County NV that concerned a situation with a rancher in his county and the BLM and how he handled it based on the Constitution and honoring his pledge to protect his constituents. It is obvious BLM has systematically used their power to run off ranchers in a lot of places. FOX had a special on Fed over reach tonight and I assumed it was on Bundy—but it was a rancher with a horror story so bad he wrote a book about it. After that they got harassed and fined pretty much daily. One fine was for a single nail being out on the fence on top of a mountain. People are past ready to remind the Feds they are not our boss, but our employees!

Here’s some good info from a great Constitutional sheriff that shows the BLM could not have done this operation at Bundy’s without the sheriff giving them that authority:

I do NOT think its over, Reid, Obama, Jarret, all of them connect and they do not take kindly to losing face, remember bullies often do not lose gracefully, they come back out of the shadows with a baseball bat when you think its all over.

And its not quite the Blood Moon as well.
Just wait a couple days the Executive Pen will sign a bill going after militias, I kid thee not, they have just seen what they cannot control, so they MUST control.

IF I were in a militia I would be very suspicious at the least of any new members, had a militia up here in Alaska some years ago that was baited by the FBI and took down.
Baited and taunted into action and then busted.

Be vigilant be in control, be ready to be all alone if it happens, better to regroup later than to be eating from a tin plate in high max.
Oh and if anyone hears or sees strange new internment type camps being built I sincerely hope the news gets spread.

Copied and Pasted from another blog...

Our County Sheriffs - Have More Power Than the POTUS

I’m not sure how many people know about this. In fact I just discovered it myself and wanted to pass this along. Did you know that our local county sheriffs are our last line of defense against Federal authorities that overstep their bounds? (If they are constitutionally minded that is)

I’m wondering if we in the Liberty movement should shift our focus from D.C. (since our senators don’t listen to us anyway), to our own county sheriffs. Maybe some are not fully aware of this themselves. Would it behoove us to begin some sort of nationwide letter campiagn to contact our county sheriffs to eduate them about this, so that when the SHTF, we will have them on our side? I’ve included info about a former sheriff and now author, who is trying to get his new book on this subject (on the Sheriffs constitutional role) into the hands of every Sheriff nationwide.

Some resources:

“the sheriff is the highest governmental authority in his county. Within that jurisdiction – inside his county – the sheriff has more power than the governor of his state. Indeed, the sheriff has more power in his county than the President of the United States. In his county, he can overrule the President and kick his people out. Remember, the President has few and limited powers...”

The County Sheriff:The Ultimate Check & Balance
...who will stop criminal and out-of-control government from killing, abusing, violating, robbing, and destroying its own people? Yes, believe it or not, there is an answer to this one. The duty to stop such criminality lies with the county sheriff. The question needs to be posed to each and every sheriff of these United States; will you stand against tyranny?

... the state governments are actually and literally charged with controlling the federal government. To do so is “one of the Constitution’s structural protections of liberty.” (Emphasis added)

...when the state legislatures go along to get along and are bought off by political cronyism or the disbursement of federal funds, then the sheriff becomes the ultimate check and balance.

http://constitutionallawenforcementassoc.blogspot.com/

Yes, that’s the plan. Make sure that every sheriff in the country has received a copy of the new book. We’re not going to force them — er, excuse me... withhold federal money from them — but we are going to give them an opportunity to read it. With your donations, we can make it happen. When every sheriff understands his duty and functions with the support of those whom he serves, then not only will there be “no sheriff left behind” but we, the people will not be left behind!

Sheriff Mack’s newest book covers decades of research to prove once and for all that the sheriffs in this country are indeed the ultimate law authority in their respective jurisdictions. The sheriff absolutely has the power and responsiblity to defend his citizens against all enemies, including those from our own Federal Government.
History, case law, common law and common sense all show clear evidence that the sheriff is the people’s protector in all issues of injustice and is responsible for keeping the peace in all matters. He is the last line of defense for his constituents; he is America’s last hope to regain our forgotten freedom...

Educating your local sheriff

Today, too many sheriffs in the big “inner cities” are nothing more than political machines. However, it’s now up to the citizenry of this country, county by county, to begin the process of meeting with your elected sheriff and have a little heart to heart chat about things like “Homeland Security” and jurisdiction.

There are more than 28,000 citizens groups in this country all fighting one issue or another. The next time your group or organization meets, elect a committee to make an appointment with your sheriff and begin the dialogue of finding out where your sheriff stands on his authority and will he/she stand up for your God-given rights or cave when the feds come a-knockin’?

I submit to you than unless the citizens in counties throughout this country begin this process of making their concerns known to their sheriff’s, we will continue to see even more tragedy. We will continue to see more and more dragoons from federal alphabet soup agencies come into our counties, crushing our rights and murdering innocent people with no-knock warrants on the wrong house or some obscure provision of the mis-named ‘Patriot’ Act.

Be polite, but firm, and let your sheriff know that if he/she will not stand up for your rights and stave off unconstitutional actions by any law enforcement coming into the county, they’re not going to get reelected. Citizen action works and now is the time to support your local sheriff after you determine they will support you.

The name "Sheriff" is an old and venerable name... over a thousand years old....to put that in context ..it dates back to half way to the birth of Christ....

First Sheriff in America was in Virginia in 1620...maybe he knew Shakespeare.

If the County and State had gotten into bed with the Feds, the outcome would have gone the way of the Justina Pelletier Kidnapping in Massachusetts.
