Cattle on the hoof was 1.35 a pound day before yesterday. A grown steer comes in at about 1200 pounds, doesn’t it?

Wrong time of year. The feds rounded up cows that have just calved or will shortly. If they would have taken those to market, it would have crushed this family financially.

Bundy needs to demand payment for dead cattle, there had to be some that got stressed out and sulked until they died.
Likely brood cows, not steers. You do not put steers on open range to fatten them. Good brood cows are hand selected and usually worth double sale barn “meat” prices.

If so, he’d better keep it in cash. I’d bet the BLM will be in court soon to place a $1 million lien on his property and bank accounts. And the banks will turn over anything the court says to turn over, with the click of a computer.
