Funny you should mention that, we're currently fighting that fight in my town.
Fortunately, the town council (and frankly, most of the town) is fairly conservative, and the zoning ordinances haven't passed. But that's not without a whole lot of trying by a couple of real estate developers and a double handful of liberal loudmouths.
Loudmouths: "You don't want Sec 8 housing because you hate black and hispanic people!!!" Rest of the town: "No, we don't want Section 8 housing because of all the attendant problems that go along with it."
Interesting fact that I didn't know.... there are three apartment complexes in our fair town. One is Sec 8, I don't know about the other two. From 2011 to March of 2014, the apartment complexes generated 690 "criminal" calls to police. Everything from "Domestic Disturbance" to Drugs, Rape and Murder.
The "main" housing development in our town has about twice as many houses as the apartment complexes have units. Over the same time frame, they generated eleven (11) "criminal" calls to the police.
Amazed me. I figured that the "high density" apartments would be worse, but not 140 times worse. If that's not an argument against Section 8, I dunno what is.
Well, since Oyster Bay went majority Obama by six points, I hope they get all the section 8 that can possibly be fitted inside the township.
The more the merrier. They deserve it!
Awww, c’mon you know that criminal behavior is a result of poor economic status. If the little darlings had a little more wealth distribution slapped on them the cops would have been cooling their heels at the Krispy Kreme.
