Whether or not Common Core is a good or bad thing, I’m not comfortable with the idea that students can simply blow off school tests when they object to them. Is that really what conservatives want?

Yes it is! I guess you aren’t a conservative.

I’m inclined to agree with you.

Yes. Especially when the test is not authorized by the constitution. The Federal Government has no constitutional authority to regulate education.

Common Core is a federal invention. The federal government has no business messing with education.

Stories such as this one are useful to the extent that they sew disrespect for public education.

I guess you missed this part: "He said it was against school policy to discipline students for opting out of the controversial test..."

She didn't "blow off" the test. She opted out (which is her right) and told other students they could, as well. That was her sin to the school's eyes.

Im inclined to agree with you as well. While I try to educate my children on the ills of government I shield them from the activist side. Sometimes its just best to let kids be kids and not fill their heads with the terrors we feel are coming. Civil disobedience is for me an adult subject. I wouldnt use my child as a tool to get my point across. Its akin to liberal rat scum repeating the line it’s for the children. Its like I tell my kids, free speech end when you cross the threshold to my front door. Likewise you show respect to elders and those appointed to teach you unless illegal. If a parent doesnt like it enroll your child in another school but for gods sake dont use your child as a tool.

I cannot speak for all conservatives ... only for myself.

What I want is for “public education” to be completely abolished. The State should not be in the business of running educational establishments. Even if such activity were appropriate to the State (it isn’t), the State has demonstrated gross incompetence and criminal malfeasance. It should be fired.

This IS NOT simply “a school test”!

This is a LIBERAL INDOCTRINATION PROGRAM, being imposed under the guise of “common core”.

Liberalism always markets their poison in candy wrappers!

These common core tests have a problem. First, many students aren’t taking them seriously. I know one teacher who told me of multiple/many students taking 15 minutes on what should have been a 1 to 2 hour math test. This teacher is a math teacher and says it’s impossible to have completed that test in that time. Another told me that the science test pretends to cover growth for the year but doesn’t cover what those students might have taken that year...spend the year in zoology and don’t get tested on zoology. So, what do the kids do? They blow it off.

Why can they blow it off?

Because they KNOW that it doesn’t matter. It isn’t the ACT or SAT. It isn’t a graduation requirement. It isn’t anything except another dumb test toward the end of the year.

It is primarily a tool used by the government to measure your school for deciding if the fed wants to take over your school. And those are the facts.

The school itself says that the students can skip the test. The student points that out, and is punished.

Common core, BTW, is injurious to knowledge and learning. It is almost lethal for math and science.

You’ve been a sleeper troll for 14 years...haven’t you? You been here 14 years and you don’t know what common core is all about?

The wording of your question...”Is that really what conservatives want?” lacks a pleural possessive...ie: “is that really what “WE” conservatives want’? It tells me you don’t really see yourself as conservative.

You’re not really of us are you...GOPe perhaps?

We need kids who can consciously surface above the brainwashing the left throws at them...their generation will be bearing the brunt of America’s restoration or its disintegration. This girl can be homeschooled and will flourish!

YES!!!!

What the heck if the point of the tests anyway? There's plenty of other ways to grade teachers students anyway.
