After getting grilled at the House Judiciary Committee hearing, Attorney General Eric Holder wished one of his outspoken critics “good luck with your asparagus.”
It was a not-so-subtle dig at Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, inspired by the congressman’s flub last year when he warned Holder not to “cast aspersions on my asparagus.”
Holder has had a testy relationship with several Republican lawmakers since the Republican-led House held him in contempt of Congress two years ago for failing to turn over certain documents tied to the Fast and Furious scandal involving botched firearms sting operations, despite a congressional subpoena seeking those documents.
In asking Holder today about the Justice Department’s refusal to turn over documents in an unrelated terrorism case, Gohmert again raised the issue of contempt, saying, “I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight.”
A visibly upset Holder, leaning back in his chair, shot back, “You don’t want to go there, buddy. You don’t want to go there, ok?”
“You should not assume that that is not a big deal to me,” Holder continued, pointing a finger toward the congressman. “I think it was inappropriate. I think it was unjust, but never think that was not a big deal to me. Don’t ever think that.”
Gohmert pressed the issue. “There have been no indications that it was a big deal, because your department has still not been forthcoming in producing the documents that were the subject of the contempt.”
“I don’t need lectures from you about contempt,” Gohmert added.

Just started watching the video posted in this thread. So far only saw Gowdy, Gohmert segments. I continued on and Jim Jordan asks him about whether the Justic Dept. interviewed Louis Lerner and Holder kept repeating ‘we are in an ongoing investigation...’ The way he kept repeating this after Jim Jordans simple questions, shows this guy is an evil criminal. Holder sees the contempt charge as a badge of honor and a certain level of accomplishment. Just the damn gall to call Gohmert “buddy” makes me chew my teeth. His attitude makes me think of J. Edgar Hoover’s days when the FBI’s main mission was digging up dirt on elected officials for Hoover to use as leverage. That’s the only way I can see for Holder to have that attitude. Or it’s just plain stupid arrogance.
Maybe some of Jeff Denham’s Dreamers could pick asparagus so Gowdy doesn’t need a guest worker bill.

This should be used to attack McCain in 2016 as well as an elitist.
Is it that Obama and Holder know the Senate is lost come November and they will get pummeled (softly by Rinos). In other words, the dream is gone.

He just directly threatened a member of Congress.

It was shocking to witness a man behaving like a man, and not backing down to Holder simply because he’s black. I don’t think I’ve witnessed a single moment of a man acting like a man in Congress in at least 5 years but Gohmert definitely gets my praise here.

The “buddy” remark is very telling. This political appointee twerp seems to think that he is co-equal to the entire legislative branch of government. He thinks that the House is the supplicant. I remember Barbara Boxer jumped all over a military officer for addressing her in a respectful manner. Cab anyone imagine a Rep. Donald Trump letting him get away with that kind of disrespect?
