A 12-year-old girl has been killed on her first date after she was dragged by her father's SUV as she tried to get out of the vehicle to pose for a photo with the boy.

It is clear that the father’s drinking impaired his ability to judge whether or not his SUV was in gear or park. It is a tragedy.
My real question is why in the heck would you allow a 12 year old out on a date in the first place??? I don’t care what the age of her ‘date’ is.

My BIL recommended that movie to my wife and I about 3 decades ago. To this day, we still both think it was the WORST movie we ever saw and joke about it.
I would agree with that speculation
He looks more like a dumb jerk to me. He doesn’t have the cold, soulless eyes that are characteristic to the truly evil.
I seem to remember watching a movie called “The Car” at the drive in many moons ago.
I don’t understand all the fussing about this first date at 12 years old.
Note her ‘date’ was 14 and the father was taking them and picking them up, and had already dropped the boy off.
Don’t know about ya’ll, but at 12 in the early 60’s we regularly went on ‘chaperoned’ dates to school dances, church dances, etc.
Again, based on the description of this date, I don’t see what the problem is.
Headline is not perfect. I got his point. Too sad to consider it an opportunity for humor. Wish you hadn’t ‘found’ it except that I’ll pray for the little girl.
My son was being invited to go to movies by girls when he was in sixth grade, in the mid-90’s, which would have needed a parent to drive. I said no, he was too young to start “dating”, but school functions were fine. He said I was lost in the old days (the 60’s).
With a serious, straight face, I told him that no, it made sense to date at a young age in the old days, because people got married when they were 18, right after high school, but that nowadays, folks don’t get married until mid-20’s, after college. Seemed to work for him, because it was four and a half years before the subject came up again. He had met his future wife. And they were just past their mid 20’s when they wed.
He looks like a man who’s in shock and grief because he’s posing for a mugshot due to his actions that caused his 12-year-old daughter’s death. Nobody would look good under those circumstances.

When I was 12, I wasn’t completely over the notion that girls had cooties. I sure wasn’t into dating them.
If this story is real, I’m not ready to find it humorous. In fact, I’m not prepared to even read the full tale just yet. If it was real, I’m glad the girl is no longer suffering.
Dating at 12? Are they muzzies?
No one is making light of her death, which is tragic.
But I consider it funny all the same journalists think a car acts on its own as though that is what you expect.
