SAN DIEGO – A U.S. Navy warship reached a crippled sailboat hundreds of miles off the Mexican coast and was preparing Sunday to complete the rescue of a sick 1-year-old girl.
The transfer of the child from the 36-foot boat to the ship was expected to start around dawn, Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Barry Bena said Sunday.
"Sometime this morning as soon as they get some light they are going to take the child off the boat and bring her aboard the naval vessel," Bena told The Associated Press.

Nothing like tossing two little tots aboard who are too young to remember the adventure, and too young to assist with daily chores on the vessel. Apparently, you do not understand the rigors of sailing on the high seas, much less with two ankle biters.
Couples with this level of stupidity should not be allowed to breed.

A few years ago, we had a 33 footer in Ventura Harbor. I wasn’t comfortable enough with it’s size to even go to Catalina. At best, these parents were naïve; at worst they were stupid.

Perhaps you should more clearly elaborate (without name-calling) on your point that these sailors were akin to those on the Mayflower.
I might even go so far as to call this a publicity stunt to get their 15 minutes of whatever --
I always thought there were about 100 passengers and 25 crew members when the Mayflower crossed the Atlantic.

I agree with you 100%. I held a Master Near Coastal, 25GT License. A License makes you legal, it does not make you a true Captain. And 6 Pak also is no indication of the experience and wisdom needed to take other’s lives into your own hands.
I don’t fault the USCG. A person can have the “sea” time and pass the exams. Look at Captain Phillips. A large part of his crew don’t consider him to be qualified. You can’t fix stupid mistakes made from ego.
I also agree that a sail boat with working sails does not lack steering. A Captain can steer a sail boat, a License cannot.

Sounds like the reaction of some “captains” I’ve run across. Who, incidently, I would not take a cross-country trip with.
I wish my head was as clear as these people. What a bunch of a wipes. And our military had to rescue them to boot.
But, but it was their parents dream and they were always careful.
There now that that is settled we can start planning our next sailing trip like our friends.
Makes sense to me, can’t deny the parents their dream.
First thought that came to my mind.

Perhaps you also think the early adult explorers and settlers traveled in groups of two with a couple of tots in tow.
